I grew up in the 90s and vividly remember people with shirts saying, "The south will rise again" It was so prevalent that I thought it was normal. You grow; you learn. Some of us anyway.

You should have seen the Delta in the '80s.

Live and learn, as you say

You're just so smart. Smarter than people twice your age. Smarter than people that might have some wisdom or a better historical background than yourself. How did you get so smart?

Really, so the "confed" flag mixed with the "Union Bars" mean Continued hope of enslaving people?

Damn, that's a leap.

Flying that flag isn't about history or wanting to enslave people. It's a middle finger to people and that is about it.

Intelligence and wisdom are not always interchangeable. I tend to rely on the wisdom of others around me.

never. most blacks in Mississippi don't give a shite.

I don't think you are correct.

Many may not be outspoken about it, but the current flag is not viewed warmly

I thought it had been the pattern since 1895?

There was a referendum in 2001 (18 years ago) to CHANGE the flag, but it FAILED.

There was no piece of state legislation declaring a state flag from 1895 to 2001.

History is so important tho

That's being suggested here. "people clinging to" what the CSA... in hopes that it will RISE AGAIN!

No, you are wrong. It is about history. It's also about the mending of a broken nation.

The United States Flag flew longer over slavery than all Confederate battle flags combined.

You're not old enough to have developed your own wisdom, so you blindly trust others opinions. Sounds unwise.

Where did I suggest any of that?

I don't think we need to fly the confederate flag to remind us of our history as a country. Should we have KKK Day to boot?

I live in the South and post on this board. Who exactly am I following?

If you want to give into the stigma of division, go ahead. But, it's you that are just like everyone else, pal.

The difference between me and you is that I rely on my conscience to determine what is right and wrong. You rely on what's happening right now.

The US flag didn't exist solely to preserve the institution of slavery.

The Confederate flag did.

I'd be cool with folks just saying any of those two things other than the bullshite "heritage" nonsense. So much more to the South than just Confederate apologetics (and I say that as someone born in the south and lived mostly in the South and in TX).

I’d say that the Civil War was by far the biggest moment of uniqueness (from the rest of America) that the entire Southern Culture - past AND present - can join behind. Therefore, it stands to reason that it would be a symbol from that period that would continue to be a symbol of our culture today. Imagine if every American during and immediately after the Revolutionary War had adopted a unifying symbol ... that would still be at least somewhat prevalent in today’s culture regardless of its official designation.

Heritage is a very legitimate reason for supporting the flag. My family has been on this land for many generations and I take pride in their hard work. I also sport a US flag and have my family’s tartan on display.

Because the majority of the people of the state of Mississippi voted to keep it. Pretty simple.

Liberals are so touchy about flags. I thought it was just a piece of cloth? Guess that doesn’t really work when you need to virtue signal, huh?

It's not about the flag.....

No one is offended by the flag, it's all a power move......proof above....
