Actually a card carrying member of the Sons of the Revolution society. My ancestor was at Trenton and Valley Forge, among other places.

Had an ancestor on my mom's side in a naval battle around Maine. Wrong side unfortunately

My dad's side goes back to the Mayflower but not sure if any fought in the Revolution. I think probably so, need to dig into it.

I’m in process of filling out application for Society of the Cincinnati. My uncle recently passed and I am next eligible heir.

So I have that going for me, which is nice.

The colonists had to quickly ramp up the domestic production of gunpowder because much of the powder for the Revolutionary War was initially coming from France.

Would this make my French colonial ancestors who arrived in Louisiana some time around the 1720s count?

If they fought the Red Coats....why not?

I think there are some Pricketts that branch off of my fathers side that go back to the original settlements.

You mean “ascendant”. You are the descendant.

I am. My great ancestor crossed the Delaware with George Washington in December 1776. We were able to find his affidavit he filed in court to receive his congressional veteran pension after the war. Gives me chills every time I think about it. It also makes me profoundly sad sometimes when I see what the democrat party wants to do to our great American heritage.

A few from the early 1700's. Family were the "Regulators" of SC who established law in the Piedmont region and went on to fight in the Revolutionary War.

There were about 250 extended families who founded America.

Ok thanks for the info. My mom has threatened to sit down and do this for years but seems like stuff always happens and she never does it. I wouldn’t mind helping her some myself when I have time. Thanks for that.

The records for the congressional pensions are a treasure trove. I believe you can obtain them from Genealogy.com. That’s how my mom located it.

Cool. Thanks for that tip. We kind of know some stuff going back a little ways but my family on her side has never dove deep into it.

Apparently the records are on the National Archives website for free. If you know your ancestor’s name you may be able to locate it. The applications have been “translated” by AI into readable type.

Some of the stories are incredible. Zohran Mamdani should be forced to read these.

My Acadian 5X great grandfather who landed in St James Parish in 1765 was in the Galvez Expedition. As well as his two brothers.

But I haven’t made the effort to sign up for membership in SAR, but maybe I should.

I am. I actually live 15 miles from my Patriots grave. I plan to visit. My ancestor/Patriot fought under Galvez.
