Ok great. I will check that out. Would you know anything about how to search a family members military records? Both of my granddads served during Korea. I know what they did in the military and what countries they were located in. I would like to find out more information about what units they served with exactly and maybe what bases they were stationed at here in the states before going overseas. I know where one of them was for a short period but I I would like to find out their total histories if possible.

My great however many grandfather Christopher de Graffenried from Bern, Switzerland landed in the new world 9.11.1710 and established what is still today New Bern NC. By all accounts he was a huge douche, which clearly passed down through generations

Yet for some reason some people want the same structure Cuba has. This shite hole:
We can never allow this to happen, America.

For those records, it appears you have to send the National Archives a formal request - either online or by mail.

Ok cool. They talked about being in the military some but they never gave me a complete breakdown. I know one was stationed in Oregon for a short while at a base that is no longer in operation. The other grandad used to talk about buying a new caddy before going to boot. He loved that car I think lol.

My maternal grandmother was very involved in DAR and did our lineage.

You have a pretty famous distant cousin. Must be weird carrying around money with a picture of a relative on it distant or not lol.

Go to Familysearch.com, you can make an account to do genealogy research and it's free. It's not as meticulous as some other genealogy websites but it's pretty good for being a free service and it uses the same Mormon records that many genealogy websites use.
Its quite a good option.
The ancestry DNA test is totally worth it in my opinion.
Thats how I found out Noble Wimberly Jones is one of my direct ancestors.
I matched with people through him via my mothers father's father's mothers side.
Totally unknown branch of the family tree until then.

It’s gonna be my luck I look all this up and I turn out to be kin to Benedict Arnold.

Yep. My Grandmother was a DAR member. My daughter is also a member.

I'm not a member of the organization, but I do have many ancestors who fought in the Revolution. Three off the top of my head:
Abraham Van Doren (GFx6) - Somerset County Militia (New Jersey)
Michael Hargan (GFx5) - 1st Pennsylvania Regiment, Continental Army - for his service, he was given a land grant in Kentucky. What was once his farm is now within Fort Knox. Hargan is buried in a cemetery there.
John Bankston (GFx5) - Served in the Wilkes County Militia (Georgia) during the Revolution. During the War of 1812, he served in the 12th and 13th Consolidated Regiments of the Louisiana Militia at the Battle of New Orleans.
On the night of January 3-4, 1777, following the Battle of Princeton, George Washington stayed at the home of John Van Doren (GFx7) in Somerset County, New Jersey.
Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, is a first cousin, eight times removed.

I have a ton of old colonial ancestry. My surname line goes back to 1650 as far as I can trace. My surname ancestor came over as a "Cavalier" because he was banished after the English Civil War.
On my mom's side, I am George Washington's cousin.
As someone else said, if you are southern you likely have colonial ancestry. A lot of people in the north and midwest are more recent migrants (Germans, Italians, Irish, Poles, etc.) but the South has stayed more isolated for longer.
