It's not a troll thread
It's an exercise. Just because it's not the most simple, on the surface reading, doesn't make it a troll thread.

I'm also not convinced that sitting it out would have cost us much relative to the current path, especially since this is far from over.
This is where we disagree.
I think people who assume it won't cost us much crate another assumption about sanctions, which doesn't reflect reality. Those sanctions are going to be there for a while, even after the conflict, most likely (if Russia "wins").

You should dig up some Crimea threads where Obama was lambasted for allowing that to happen.
Somewhat ironically, the google algo changes to stop right wingers makes it very difficult to show the hypocrisy of right wingers today.

Eh. I think “right wingers” learned something from the Iraq war and ensuing clusterfrick. The support for Trump indicates that.
But even if they didn’t, there’s plenty of hypocrisy to go around.

Or you can just be consistent for 17 years or so

Which makes it a troll thread when you know the target audience need it to spelled out for them which side you support. Otherwise, how would they know what imaginary opinions to assign to you so they can then mock you with different versions of the same worn out schtick.
Anything that requires thought and depth of consideration is by default… a troll.
Which I take to be your general point.

right. which is why there wasnt much grumbling about it outside of forums like this. there wasnt as much rank distrust of government back then either.

well.. I wasnt a supporter of any of it either, so do I get to white boy dance too!?

The IRS scandal had happened by then
And this era for sure had just passed:

When did you become a devoted anti-semite?
Crimea was the heart of the Khazar Empire... Oh no, words of truth...
Seriously, Crimea was... There seems a hint in there somewhere.
I better wait until blind accusation risks are soothed

The biggest difference is polarization has ramped up because finding echo chambers is easier today.
The talking points are all the same.
Hell, social conservative are bringing back the Satanic Panic, even.

No one is invading Russia or is going to
But as an example, as to how things could go to hell in a hurry, check out the 2008 Russo-Georgian War. NATO says Georgia "will be" a member of NATO. The EU says Georgia started the 2008 conflict.
Given the pretext of skirmishes between Russia and NATO (Georgia), you're saying that kind of conflict could not lead to shelling and/or pursuit into Russian territory? NATO troops killing Russians? Russians killing NATO troops?

get outa here with that. The left and most of the middle had strong faith in Obama after his reelection - naively or not. The only people were bitching were people like me.
Today is much worse. The polls reflect that. Trust in government has never been lower.

It is a troll thread because you suggest that if i don't support Ukraine, then i must support Russia.
What if i told you, i don't give a shite about either country? What if i told you, that i have more concern with billions of US Tax dollars going to a corrupt Ukrainian government than i do with whatever Russia does? What if i told you that the US has no business being involved in that mess, and that the Democrats undying devotion to give away tax dollars to the corrupt assholes in Ukraine is why i don't care about them?

Gallup has this admin at all-time lows. For international affairs, it certainly is by a large margin.

So you not only know what people believe but why they believe it. But you’re totally here for honest conversation, amirite?
This is another 20 pages of you sniffing your own farts and trying to talk down to people who say you smell like shite and not roses.
