Moving around as much as I did as a kid led me to wonder how/why people emotionally tied themselves to public educational systems.
As far as HS and earlier it's really baffling. Your parents chose their residence based on a lot of things. But it probably wasn't so you would be a Tiger/Panther/Giant/Brown/Colt, whatever, as a teenager. Compound that with mandatory attendance at a pre determined school district under penalty of law (except for primarily S.La. with the private system so entrenched, vast majority of the rest of the Nation does the public school thing).
Emotionally tied to taxing authority under threat of prosecution just doesn't really make sense.
Then there's the public college system, that again is your tax dollars, taken under armed threat, to sponsor most of even the sports teams affiliated (LSU sports is an outlier of course being funded outside/apart from the school which I do applaud and support that system).
I can understand recent grads showing support/appreciation for the particular educators that gave them their careers. But to maintain emotional ties when those specific individuals have moved on seems strange too. Like I doubt anyone from my 1st BS is even still alive so why would I have a tie to that school?

I am upset over the last 10 years, not so much at TCU's growth and increase in tuition, but in who they have as faculty, and administration. They seem to have bent the knee and all semblance of a faith based university is gone.
I refuse to give to the Annual Fund and have limited $ donations to my fraternity and athletic department/ Frog Club.

My wife graduated from Episcopal. Apparently they don't teach home economics. I do all the cooking and cleaning.

There's a difference between now and then though. When I was in college in the 80s I knew my Comp I teacher was a liberal because he talked about how he spent the last summer on a nudist colony on an island off the coast of Germany. Other than that he looked and seemed like a normal human being.
Today that Comp I teacher would be talking about how he spent the summer protesting (his word, not mine) in Portland, would have his hair dyed like Wendy O. Williams of the Plasmatics, and would spend the first twenty five minutes of the first day of class talking about his pronouns.

I don’t watch the gators any more . It’s helps that I lost faith in Mullen as college sports got woke.

The students and football team want the statue of A&M's Sul Ross removed.
The football team openly advocates for BLM
A&M had a Chinese Spy in the Faculty
A&M last week held a DRAG QUEEN Pageant in THE MEMORIAL STUDENT CENTER. (The Student Center dedicated to Aggies that lost their lives in Wars.) Only to NOW have Drag Queens parading around. I guess they are looking for generals for the Cadets.
So, yea I lost the rah rah for sure.

That's because they've been oppressed from sharing for 250 years...or some such drama like that.

Arkansas has a group who wants to remove the statue of J. William Fulbright, and rename the liberal arts college which currently bears his name. Because he didn't push hard enough for civil rights or some such shite.
It's a relatively liberal school, but the city itself is increasingly clown-world Leftwing nutjobs. It's always been liberal, but it's going down the shitter rapidly.

I’ll put it this way: if they drop Ole Miss and/or Rebels I’m basically done giving all that much of a shite about our sports, and boy do I love getting shite hammered in the Grove and left field.
Same, although I haven't been able to make it to games like I used to due to life circumstances.

My alma maters are UAB and UNA, and neither will ever get a dime of my money due to wokeness.

This is not liberalism. People need to start making the distinction and call it for what it is.

Haven't given a penny to UNO since graduation. Maybe I would've if they even had a fricking football team

I will always cherish what LSU was. Some of the best times of my life were there and I’ll never forget.
But frick whatever the shite the school has become.

Raises hand. Told LSU to screw itself last year over its SJW bullshite.
No more donations for me. And I may not even attend football games.

I wanted to capture a larger political spectrum than just the extreme left. That's why I originally used "liberalism." Maybe I should have said "leftist" instead.
