Jesus himself said he didn’t come to do away with the law, but to fulfill it. You can’t just say the Old Testament doesn’t matter. It matter’s greatly because everything in it points to Jesus as the Messiah. Books like Proverbs give you words to live your life by and help make you the best person you can be.

How? Because some people want to be their own god and do what seems right in their own eyes rather than worship God and follow His infallible word.
The common denominator with all Christian cults and heretical and deeply erroneous sects or denominations is the abandonment of the scriptures as their ultimate authority.
Those who don’t trust the Bible as the infallible word of God and the highest authority for the Church will inevitably make God and His word in their own image and out their personal preferences above God’s holiness. These people will give lip service to the Bible while interpreting it according to what they want it to say rather than seeking to understand what it actually says.

Lister: No offense, Rimmer, but that is completely wacko-jacko.
Rimmer: Everyone's entitled to their beliefs, Lister. I never agreed with my parents' religion, but I wouldn't dream of knocking it.
Lister: What were they?
Rimmer: Seventh Day Advent Hop-ists. They believed that every Sunday should be spent hopping. They would hop to church, hop through the service, then hop back home again. I tell you, Sunday lunchtimes were a nightmare - we all had to wear sou'westers and asbestos underpants. You see, they took the Bible literally - Adam and Eve, the snake and the apple, took it word for word. Unfortunately, their version had a misprint. It was all based on 1 Corinthians 13: "Faith, Hop and Charity, and the greatest of these is Hop."

Are you in a mainline Protestant church?

They greatly manipulate a couple of New Testament ideas and abandon everything else.

I think she represents what we were taught as children. To love each other and treat everyone with respect.
What about the parts of the New Testament that tell us to repent and flee from sin? We aren’t supposed to hate someone because they’re a sinner, but that doesn’t mean we should be accepting or okay with their sin. I’m not okay with my own sins, and I’m not going to be okay with another person’s, either.

Everything has to be interpreted based on the time it was written. Some will say that Paul was referencing rampant lust with both men and women. Just an observation and not saying I truly know.
At the same time, the Bible is very clear about divorce and remarriage being wrong also. I don’t understand how churches gloss over that one. Is there a different interpretation of that today?
Just thoughts.

Naming this under the pretext of “Protestant” is sounding like a dig to me. Why not this instead, “Why do some churches “? Just sounds like the same old Catholic verses Protestant attack.
Because “some churches” are 100% Protestant. Protestant churches, all of them, pick and choose what teachings of Jesus to follow. There is not a single Protestant church that follows all of Jesus’ teachings.

Man is sinful. That’s how Protestant churches have accepted gay marriage.

So you are an atheist? If so, I’m not going to try to convert you. And I cannot speak for every Christian denomination, but we Orthodox Christians consider ourselves an apostolic church. We have scripture but we also have the oral teaching from the church fathers, who were taught by the apostles, who were obviously taught by Christ. And the oral traditions, along with canon, and also the lives and teachings of the saints help us to know how to interpret scripture. But if you ever find yourself in Atlanta I invite you to join us at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
If I lived in Atlanta, I would definitely visit your Church and think about converting.

How do black preachers support the democrat party?
A lot of them are conservative on social issues, yet they support this party that goes against the Bible
