We have given up on the hegemony plan. We can’t afford it anymore. What are you trying to argue?

When the disruption in international trade negatively affects our GDP/SOL, I don't know if we'll say we can afford that plan, either.

What we can't afford is domestic entitlement programs

*ETA: for the smooth brains, the comments above are about hegemony. We can definitely take a haircut to our defense spending, but it's not going to be nearly enough.

It doesn’t. People don’t understand the consequences of pulling out of Europe. America will never be great if we pull out of Europe or pull out of anywhere really. If it isn’t us running the world, it’s going to be the Chinese. I fail to see how that would be a good thing.

Did you ever wonder why the US Corporatocracy decided in the 90's to offshore US manufacturing/industrial production to China and why they assisted the CCP in the modernization of their military?

Think about it.

Europe is destroying itself. They have no freedoms. They brought in the invaders. Europe would be worth saving if they had not decided (the gov't) to turn towards being an enemy of their own people.

Its like when you quit providing your teens with money. Suddenly they need your full undivided attention

Funny how that works, even in every country across the globe. My parents always told me you cant buy friends. Because when your money stops, they aint your friend no more

We became a world super power because of WW2 Western Eurpoe and Japan were destroyed. We helped rebuild both after rebuilding both we did not change anything, kept spending money non stop so our policy would lead the world, we discarded the mid west blue collar worker shipped those jobs to China to make them a super power, some very smart people leading us, I would say, no. We are now in a Multi Polar world, China has its sphere and the United States has its Sphere, North America. Western Europe should make a deal with Putin, stop this mess. China will have us to compete with b India and Russia on their border. We don't need Vassel states, if the only reason Western Europe wants us so we can pay their bills, well screw that... No one is attacking us...

Good that is what every president since Obama has been saying, they will not do it. Us paying for their defense make most of western europe become marxist pretty much. Western Europe will remain weak. JMO

What?! We became a superpower because we are resource independent and a massive industrial complex that could provide weapons and supplies. We traded to both sides in WW1 and wouldn’t have joined WW2 if not for Pearl Harbor. We didn’t become s superpower by being friendly to everyone. That’s just dumb

Can you explain a little more what you mean by this?

The age of conventional wars and massing of troops for a large-scale invasion is passe.

With the weapons we, the Russians, Europe and most first world countries possess, it is suicide. And the Generals know it.

Any invading army, whether by land or sea, would be wiped out or at least suffer innumerable causalities by airpower and the defensive technology we now have. See Desert Storm and the feint of an amphibious assault into Kuwait. Stormin Norman knew the risks and used it as a decoy to come through the desert because we owned the sky and the airwaves.

Hell, a squadron of antiquated A-10's, which are still incredible killing machines, would do major damage to any ground invading army into Europe.

This is not the 1940's dude.

Border skirmishes will happen but any world war would not be conventional warfare.

What will happen if the US stops running the world?

Will we see war in the ME? In Europe?

Will there be constant strife in Africa?

Will we see massive inflation?

Will we be overrun with "refugees?"

Will LGBT propaganda be spread worldwide with our tax dollars?

Will we be $37 trillion in debt?

Will the middle class dream of affording a home and raising a family on a single salary die?

Europe seems to be calling for uniting in defense spending to ensure independence from the US.

Europe is increasing defense spending because of US independence...not to insure it.

Without us they get their asses kicked and now they are playing catch up.

That is all.

I guess I’m not seeing the benefit to letting Europe or China or whoever distance themselves from us with the intention of competing in military spending with us.

We are BROKE! We either pull back and fix our financial issues or we will go bankrupt and the dollar collapses. People act like there are no consequences for hemorrhaging money for decades as they want to continue this fiscal irresponsibility indefinitely. I just can’t comprehend how people don’t see that we have to quit using the credit card and make some tough choices.

We did it by making friends, which is why Russia and China has struggled reaching our level.

We didnt "make" friends, we bought them with the Marshall Plan, being raped on trade, and spending trillions on their defense. The minute we ask them to help a little with the power bill they revolt, is that what a "friend" does.

Speaking of, we put the utmost trust in them with "5 eyes" intel....and the brits and aussies tried to fking get our President impeached with Russiagate.

We invented Panama, yes invented it, then gave them the canal and they start blowing china for a few shekels.

Mexico and canada acting like cheap whores cross docking chinese goods so they could avoid tariffs.

And the list goes on and on.
