Not trying to make this a political thread. But how has abortion or maintaining the right to an abortion become so popular? I mean the majority of women want abortion as an option. It’s not even close. I can’t imagine anyone that’s held a newborn baby in their arms could think abortion was okay. Almost like gay marriage, it’s an issue that seems settled.

people don’t like being told what they can’t do or can’t decide for themselves. It is the American experience

forcing women to carry to term when they don’t want to do it is a losing argument

Effectively everyone under 50 has grown up with it as a right.

In school I remember learning Roe v Wade was about womens rights (grew up in a super liberal area). It was only ever references as a land mark generally for womens rights.

It wasn’t until college that I knew it ever had anything to do with abortion.

ETA: I just feel terrible for the unborn children in this situation. It’s always an argument over the rights of the mother. The fetus, which otherwise would be a healthy and normal person, almost never factors into the argument.

I don’t really know where I stand on the issue as far as legislation, I just know that the unborn in this get the absolute shaft and it feels gross that they are so ignored with this. At least bill Clinton ran on it being safe and rare. Todays pro-choice is basically proud to have it out in the open. To me it should be a serious decision. I think we are trending towards it being more casual and normal, and I think that is wrong. If it’s going to exist, we should not be so nonchalant about it.

precisely

the threat of overturning roe carried election messaging for 50 years. Now that the arrow has left the quiver the issue has galvanized the other side.

Liberals

Abortion doesn't even bother me anymore. It's population control for weak minded individuals.

The black population should be really worried about it though because between abortion and murdering one another they will be over taken by Hispanics. The Democrats have been killing them off for years.

Correct, it is not natural to feel okay with killing a baby so we build ways to justify it. It is not Gods plan.

If the government would quit funding it, it would mostly go away.

Yeah, so the baby inside the mom doesn't have freedom of choice.

Celebrities and pop culture. Americans are desperately obsessed with trends and what's "cool".

They will always sacrifice any long term outlook for the next trendy/cool thing.

People are lazy and irresponsible because daddy gov will either kill the child for them or feed and house it from birth to prison.

Nobody forced them to get pregnant, 99% of the time.
