How did Rush allow Stage 4 cancer to sneak up on him?

Each day around noon when my only broadcast option is the tedious Clay & Buck show I realize how much I would rather listen to Rush.
The man had the means to take care of himself. How did a fatal condition surprise him so badly?
I read a couple of years ago that his house was going to be purchased and demolished so I guess the studio is long gone too.

He was addicted to benzos for years. He probably neglected his health is my guess.

Are you under the impression that all cancers have noticeable symptoms because they don’t in fact liver and pancreatic cancers often don’t present themselves until it is far too late to treat. Unless you get skin cancer screenings regularly, it generally has benign symptoms as does colon cancer which is why colonoscopies are so important.

I just had a buddy that went from zero to stage 4 and dead in two months.
Went to regular checkups and had a clean bill of health up until he didn’t.
Started having blurred vision and dizzy spells.
26 brain tumors.
Started in the lungs.
Had a positive colonoscopy the week of diagnosis.

Probably same way it happens to a lot of people. You don’t feel good but it’s small so you ignore it. When you do go get treatment they might take a while before pin pointing the issue and then boom it’s progressed so much.
I’ve known multiple people that felt slightly off for a while and then one day stage 4 cancer after like a year or so.

depending on the type of cancer cell, progression can be rapid and symptoms may not show until its too far along.
I had a full Physical in early 2005, and nothing showed anything out of the normal. less than 9 month later i had Stage 2 testicular cancer (already spread to lymph nodes)
unless you are doing a full body CT every 6-12 months (which has its own inherent risks) you can easily miss the early stages

Most people believe that they would know if they had cancer and that feeling good trumps common sense, they are wrong. Most blood tests are useless for finding cancer unless you have a blood cancer and even PSA levels can be misleading. You can have low PSA and no noticeable symptoms and still have prostate cancer just like you can have a high PSA with severe symptoms and not have cancer. In fact, early stage prostate cancer is symptomless in most people

Jesse Kelly is becoming my favorite radio flamethrower.

I hate to break it to you but genetic cancers have zero to do with weight, age, or drug addiction. Unless you believe a six month old with leukemia or sarcoma had in coming from living a hard life

How l9ng did he know and not announce it to his audience? I really don't remember how it all played out.

He was a lazy fat bastard.
Shocker he died from cancer.

He was a longtime heavy smoker. Even when he gave up cigs, he was still famously smoking stogies. It was probably a bit of hubris - his grandfather lived to be 105 (and was in the active practice of law at 102). He has (right now) a living uncle who is 97 or 98.
He probably thought he had more time. The graveyards are full of people who thought they had one more day.

Make me think of those St. Jude commercials.

Are you under the impression that you are immune from cancer or that only fat people get it? You would be sorely mistaken

I sorta moved in that direction. Thankfully Neal Boortz is still putting out daily content (Boortz was my favorite even over Rush).
I wonder how long Clay & Buck will be around.
