How did I lose Garrett Graves as my Congressman?
So, Landry gerrymandered Graves' district to get him out of congress.

If a Republican is going to take Landry out, he/she better be laying some serious groundwork this year.

Gerrymandered districts are why the dumbest people are leading us.

In 2022 she ruled in ruled in Robinson v. Landry that Louisiana’s congressional map, drawn after the 2020 Census, likely violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by diluting Black voting strength. The map had only one majority-Black district out of six, despite Black residents comprising nearly one-third of the state’s population. She ignored that the population was so widely dispersed throughout the state that a second district would require extreme gerrymanding and ordered the state to redraw the map to include a second majority-Black district.
Instead of fighting it in court on the grounds of extreme, race-based gerrymandering, Landy used it as a reason to get some retribution on Graves for not kissing his ring and redistricted him out of office. That redistricting came about as a deal with Cleo Fields for Cleo to help with the black vote in exchange for being pushed into the new district's office.
This not only wildly changed the shape of District 6, it also impacted District 2 (Carter's district) and District 5 as those boundaries shifted to absorb some areas which were formerly District 6.
Isn't the USSC hearing a similar case right now that they will probably end up saying drawing districts to favor a race is unconstitutional and would Louisiana re-draw the map to remove a 2nd black majority district?

This. Graves is/was a rising star in LA state politics and a threat to Landry.

People shitting on Landry for this but a 2nd predominant black district was court ordered.
Alabama Graves gets the shaft because of stupid political decisions against people who have the power. Backed the wrong candidate for governor and derailed Scalise for Speaker of the House while hitching his wagon to a doomed McCarthy during the fight. He made too many political enemies within the state to ever be effective.

And Graves tried to walk the fence, and pissed off a lot of MAGA. He bet on the wrong horse, as nowadays there is no 'moderate'. It's either v or.

David Duke managed to do it, but…yeah…David Duke. Buddy Roemer really pissed some people off.
Also there was a little more politics in Roemer's election that doomed his governorship in 1987.
Edwards threw in the towel in 1987, after coming out second in the primary. Because Edwards did not run in the general, that did not help Roemer to build a coalition of legislators to ride his coat tails. That essentially allowed Edwards to run a shadow government and put roadblocks in the legislature with legislators loyal to Edwards to make Roemer a one termer.
Edwards then rode in on his perverbial white horse in 1991 and led Louisiana to make a choice vote for the crook or the man under the sheets.

Your Governor didn’t want to have to worry about a pesky runoff in 2023. Cleo Fields ensured the buses would stay parked and the inner city Democrat ground game would not be at its best during the primary.
Now yes, Landry is better than Shawn Wilson, but in a runoff, he might have had to be bothered with answering a few more policy questions.
Your narrative is not based in any reality. There was a runofff against Wilson. No amount of Cleo Fields busses would have swung that vote.
The actual election was decided upon the “Louisiana Republican Party” backing and outright endorsing Landry over 3 other Republicans in the Open Primary.

Louisiana's political problem are soooo much deeper that Jeff Landry. It's impossible for real conservativism to dig itself out the hole they're in because they cannot even understand how bad off it is.

shite, you're right. I'm sorry. And I guess I'm somethign of an idiot.
My general point still stands, as to what swung that election. I guess I just mis-remembered that there was because of the two idiots who got first and second.

How did a state with a Republican Governor,
He’s not really a republican. Nor is he a democrat. He’s only out for himself and to punish those who don’t blow him. Your former congressman is one of them who did not blow him.

I'm starting to wonder if that new district wasn't intentionally drawn the way it was to guarantee a SC reversal and the abolishment of race-based gerry-mandering altogether.

Could have appealed instead of complying.
Landry used the lower court as an excuse to dump Graves and pay back Cleo
Cutting a deal with Cleo should result in expulsion from the GOP
