This is true, but the major drop happened after the election, and the Dem machine tried to blame Bush for the “recession” because he was in office for the final quarter of it. It was clearly the dotcom bubble bursting, but the timing of it probably didn’t impact the 2000 election as much as say the housing bubble collapse in the summer before the 2008 election

Mainly because Gore is only slightly more likeable than Hillary.
He has the charisma of a TSA agent.

Bush ran on the best foreign policy. At that point the pro peace candidate had won every election. His foreign policy turned out to be the opposite of what he ran on. I fail for it

It wasn't a win/lose campaign. Bush was run by the cia/corps and Gore was a DC insider.
It was a win/win campaign.
It was a win/win campaign.

I think part of it is that after a two term presidency, and you’re trying to run the incumbent VP, people start to get a little weary and want something different. Gore being an idiot didn’t help.

Well, one of the last things Clinton did was to commit treason by giving China our nuke technology. That definitely left a bad taste in the mouths of many and didn't make us want more of the same with Gore..

Gore was just a terrible candidate. He could not even win his home state.

Trump will almost certainly win Florida again which is where he actually resides

Gore was a crap candidate and distanced himself from Clinton because of the Lewinsky crap, that no one really cared about. Lots of times after 8 years, the sheep just want to see what a different wolf is like.
All that and it was still really close. W was fortunate. And of course we were rewarded with and endless war and the Patriot Act, the single biggest front to the freedom of Americans in history.

Gore was so bad he couldn’t win his home state

This is an easy question. After 4 years of BS, people are ready for fresh BS. Then after 4 more years, they are ready for the other BS again.

Americans had reached their fill of the Clinton sleazebag administration. They were ready to move on and Gore was not going to change their minds.

He had a better organization than Gore. Rove understood where the votes were in Ohio and Florida and Arizona and laser focused on them. Plus VA and CO were still mostly Republican.

W was the son of one of the most powerful CIA leaders ever.

Al gore was an obvious dickweed

Clinton's "popularity" was really just bipartisan disapproval of the harebrained impeachment. He was very unpopular before that. Both of his wins were heavily influenced by Perot.
It had more to do with Newt Gingrich wrestling control of the budget and economy.

Because the Uniparty decided they liked Bush over Gore, and they were all on the same team, so it didn't matter anyway. One was just more profitable to enough people.
