I also understand why a mayor doesn’t like the state holding tax payer dollars over his head to comply with unpopular (to a long part of constituents) federal orders

Yes. The DSA takes this as a big win and uses it to continue building strength. They probably view this mayor as a useful fool.

I get it, he is probably a friend of yours or at least someone you know and like considering your connection to the political game. I don’t know anything about the guy all anyone can really go by is his word. He says Houston will no longer cooperate with ICE. Let’s be totally honest here. When a politician says something like this openly, it doesn’t just mean they won’t cooperate it also means they will actively obstruct. But time will tell.
