It's not like America's white population is particularly safe either.

Its because we have so many guns.
Not that guns are even inherently unsafe, its that the number of people willing to shoot someone is a lot larger than the number willing to stab someone to death.

It's harder to stab people to death...
And as I've lived there back in the 90s, the occasional death by illness domestics or other "accident" never stir up any issues for belligerents.

You really should have interjected yourself into the conversation and asked them what the demographics of the country are. Of course you might have had to tell them what the word demographic means.

There were more knife homicides in the US per 100,000 than the UK.
While I haven't found the data, I suspect US stabbing rates among whites is still going to be higher than the UK's stabbing rates among whites. American whites are still pretty violent compared to most of Europe, it's just that the Black population makes them look less violent.

Not only is it 100% white, but it's pretty much ethnically pure-- nearly all modern Icelanders are descendants of Vikings and their Irish captives who arrived on the island in the 10th century AD.

100% correct here. They have shared the same societal and cultural values for centuries. There is a common understanding between all Icelandic people as to what they deem acceptable and what they don't. They all operate under the same set of standards and "rules" much unlike the melting pot that is America. We could never replicate their societal structure and values on a large scale here for what it's worth, so anyone trying to use iceland, or any of the Scandinavian countries, as an example to follow isn't being realistic.
I was there in late October of last year. Stayed in Reykjavik for 4 days and Vik for 3. Never saw a uniformed police officer. Hell, their Prime Ministers house or office, can't remember which one, is directly on a main street in Reykjavik with no fencing or walls around it and his car parked directly on the street in front. They are very liberal/progressive leaning especially when it comes to climate activism, clean energy, and social issues. I was completely mind-fricked at how rational and accepting they were for being so "progressive" as it just works in their culture. American progressives need to take a trip there and learn some things.
