There are hundreds of text messages between Gonzales and his aide of him putting pressure on her to cheat. Also accounts of them cheating at another aides cabin. Gonzales clearly broke the ethics rules and was likely going to be kicked out of Congress regardless of if he withdrew.

No, he’s a scumbag, but the things I read were that she immolated because of the husband, not the congressman.
Now it’s likely more complicated that that and good riddance to the congressional a-hole, but I thought that was a weird twist in the story. But not as weird as self-immolation as a way to go out.
