Here ye here ye: LA Special Session the Third Is Upon Us

I interrupt the PT discussion about kids in cages to bring you news of something that will actually affect some of us: What will our sales tax be after June 30th?
LINK
It appears absolutely nothing is new. JBE is still demanding a half-cent, and is still 6 votes short in the house.
I believe they will piss around for a week, move some budget cuts around and eventually pass a 1/3.

I kind of felt like, all the ones who would cave, already did.

If you think 1/6 of a penny is the difference between being a conservative and being a RINO (or whatever denigrating moniker you want to use), then you are part of the problem. It's all about politics to you.
If the half cent is passed, you do realize that the sales tax will still be a half cent lower than it is right now... right?

If and when this special session blows up like the rest of them have, that should tell you just how much clout JBE has in the state capital, especially with his own party and has no business being reelected Governor.

IF anything happens, it will be 4.5%
There is decent chance everything falls apart again.
There is a cool bill that does step that down over several years to nothing though.

How about we cut out useless spending and get 2 or 3 cents back?
Posted on 6/18/18 at 5:58 pm to FinebaumsHair
Cut spending?!?! We can’t do that!!!! Didn’t you know that people will be literally dying in the streets if government spdending is reduced!?!? Never mind that this is the most catholic state with the most Catholic Churches that routinely set up care systems for needy people, it’s only possible if we increase state spending for ever

Where would you like to cut?

I personally would like the republicans to grow some damned balls and call a constitutional convention and address the 7,000 lb albino gorilla in the capital that is protected spending. Every department could have survived very easily with a <10% cut in funding, which is all hat would have been needed to bridge the budget gap.
Instead it’s healthcare and higher ed, two very visible, very painful categories that get cut because the previous politicians thought no one would ever cut these in a million years and all of our other pet projects get constitutionally protected. Well I’m sick of this shite
If we are paying for special sessions, we can pay for a convention instead

Hopefully it does.
Louisiana has lost GDP and population for two straight years now and frick any more of that coming out of this special session.
JBE has zero ideas besides a bloated state government on par with fricking Georgia despite them having a few more million people than we do.
We can't afford all this government.

Nope.
Not while the political twin of Edwin Edwards with some Huey Long is still our Governor.
Our current state constitution today is Edwin Edwards baby.
We're just going to have to wait until we can get rid of him and elect a common sense conservative to make this happen.

For three years we’ve been asking the reality challenged republicans where they would cut. They haven’t identified any cuts yet. Whenever JBE identifies their budgetary cuts they cry that he is just trying to scare people, meaning they never actually intended to cut.
The republicans have lost their minds. They will pass the tax, although they should actually work on a total overhaul of the taxing structure.

JBE kept asking for 900 million and never even budged from that at all even when the number crunchers said we didn't need that much.
All JBE cares about is spending that's on par with a state like Georgia.

Let me try this with my household.
Wife where can we cut?
Me rolling up in a brand new RV(Medicaid expansion). Hey I bought this for me and my buddies to tailgate LSU games. Not sure where we can cut now. You need to work double shifts I guess

JBE just on my TV telling us that he wants to cut 1/2 a million in taxes and 200 million in spending, but a small minority in the legislature is stopping him.
He also bragged employment was the highest ever, and he was bringing in all kinds of jobs.
You guys can't see all this because we are losing population, the state's economy is shrinking and we are ranked last of all the states in best economies. Take your blinders off!!!
