If we let cheap labor into the country, then the elites at Chamber of Commerce can get richer while your wages are depressed and you pay higher taxes for the government services that the illegal, low-skill workers drain.

It keeps wages down and prevents companies from hiring Americans. Case in point: When some of the chicken plants in Mississippi were busted last year for having illegals, they were replaced them with unemployed Americans. Americans HAVE to come first.

Also, no country can survive with open borders, and no country can survive with the immigration policy we’ve had.

I dated a girl at LSU who couldn’t believe that MLB brought in foreigners to play baseball. She felt as though the catcher for the NY Yankees should be an American, unless no American wants the job then and only then should they look for foreign labor. I was kind of blindsided by her take on that.

Obviously democrats want the immigration of certain types of people so they can eventually vote because 70% of them will vote democrat.

Can you name a communist democrat party president? We have never had one.

We will never be a one party country. People know how wrong that can be. I see the republicans moving to the left to better accommodate certain voters.

We create a welfare state that pays the would-be American blue collar labor force to stay home, frick, and do drugs. Then we import Hispanics illegally to do that work for pennies on the dollar and push to give them voting rights.

This is the future that democrats want for America

Please don't confuse/conflate legal immigration with illegal immigration. They are NOT the same.

Limited LEGAL immigration is desirable.

Illegal immigration is NOT desirable and unfettered illegal immigration is a certain way to bring death to any country.

Tell them that rich white business owners love immigration because it enables them to avoid hiring blacks while getting praised by liberals for not hiring whites.

There is a big difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration.

One can be for legal immigration, which has many benefits and against illegal immigration.

Legal immigration is controlled, vetted and used to bring in people with different skills and talents. That should remain as it helps the country develop

Illegal or controlled immigration is what will hurt this country. It leads to a huge strain on resources and leaves not only the illegal immigrants exposed to many health and safety issues but also regular Americans.

Not the way its been practiced for the past 35 years.

Case in point: we’ve naturalized an average of more than 1 million foreign nationals every year since the mid 1990s. More than half were listed as officially unemployed at the time of their naturalization.

Exactly. Legal immigration is just as bad as illegal and worse in many ways (because you can't round them up and deport them)

unfettered immigration has never been good for this country, even the european immigration waves of the 19th century. my family immigrated from Ireland after the civil war. there were two distinct types of immigration, there was specific place immigration after the war, these were to states lightly populated seeking people to homestead and this typically worked out ok, then there was mass immigration typically to the ports of boston, philadelphia and new york and that rarely worked out well. to this day boston still has an irish underclass. mass immigration unleashed a cavalcade of social ills that were unimaginable. drug use, out of wedlock births, men who abandoned families, prostitution, crime and ethnic riots. most first generation immigrants never learned english and never became american citizens remaining impoverished for the rest of their lives. sound familiar?

the term "melting pot" was the name of a play that was popular in the early 1900's a romeo and juliet story about an italian and jewish couple who embrace a shared "american culture" over their separate european cultures. it was teddy roosevelt favorite play, but it was a metaphor for what people hoped would happened not what was happening. in fact if you look at almost all contemporary literature and plays at the time written to be consumed by immigrants, they speaks to the regret of leaving their homelands.

there was a reason that we placed a moratorium on immigration in 1923 and it wasn't because everything was going great.

support for immigration has always fallen into two camps, republican support for cheap labor and democrat support for political power. it has never had wide spread support from native born americans even those children and subsequent generations of immigrants that have to deal with the consequences of unfettered immigration.

I think sports requires a special skill set and is a unique market, and I have no problem with MLB finding the best in the world and hiring them. However, with common, everyday jobs, they have to go to Americans. By the way, I have no problem legal immigration for work visas.

In a nutshell. Legal immigration helps the United States. Illegal immigration hurts the United States.

It’s that simple.

Legal immigration based upon need helps the United States. I don’t believe the H1B visas have been a huge boon for us.

You need to read some history. Every totalitarian state replaced a non-totalitarian state. People didn't hold an election "Dictator for Life." Those in power grow their power until the people have no voice.

Just look at how much more power the federal govt of the US has over your life as an individual than it did in 1776.

One of the arguments would be looking at the current birth rate in the US. Then look at the problems on the horizon with us having a disproportionate older population with the baby boomers entering a later stage in life. Look at the problems this is causing Japan right now. A country gets into problems if the population is disproportionately older than working age.

Some would argue immigrants are more greatful than native born Americans thus work harder and have better priorities. So if you bring in a bunch of immigrants that are willing to work hard then it creates competition and a higher standard of achievement. Native born Americans would have not continue to re-invent themselves instead of getting guaranteed stuff.
