It’s been around a lot longer than that.
Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received word of their freedom—making the foundational event 161 years old.
The first organized community celebrations began a year later in 1866, meaning the tradition itself is 160 years old.The origins and evolution of the holiday can be broken down by these key milestones:
The Event (June 19, 1865): Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, to announce that the last remaining enslaved people in the state were free.
The First Celebrations (1866): Originally known as "Jubilee Day," freed African Americans in Texas organized the very first celebrations in 1866.
Federal Recognition (2021): While widely celebrated regionally for over a century and recognized as a state holiday in Texas since 1980, it only officially became a U.S. federal holiday on June 17, 2021.

I think I'm going to go into a gas station, ask the cashier for something I know they wont have in stock, like an aquarium. And then when they tell me, "I'm sorry sir but we dont carry those", I'm going to destroy and tip over every display case inside the gas station.
Oh, I'm going to scream "don't disrespeck me muthah frickahs!!!" as I leave.

Just heard a DJ on the radio say that we are celebrating because this is when everyone was finally free.
Here’s the kicker. Said it is important to vote because there are people that are trying to put you back in slavery.
WTF
And people will believe it

Something about celebrating when the final, western-most slaves were notified of their freedom.

Slaves were officially freed in the United States with the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment on December 6, 1865.
Seems like they got the wrong date.

What’s the cost to the economy having this holiday on a Friday? Some guy getting paid today, looking forward to the weekend and not being able to get his money because the bank is closed is going to be some upset.
Can’t Juneteenth be on a Monday or a Saturday or any day but a Friday?. It’s a holiday for government workers and they make the banks close. It’s terrible economic policy.
Interest clock never stops either. You just paid 3 more day’s interest if you had planned to pay down a loan today. Billions of dollars affected.

Celebrating the end of slavery = a good thing.
What the left will turn it into (a platform to spew hatred about anything and everything associated with “whiteness”), = ruining a good thing.

Morons don’t know history. Slavery was still legal in the border states because they were not in rebellion at the time of the Proclamation.
But no. Go with feel good over facts.
How am I celebrating a lie? I’m not.

BBQ and Big Red.
I wish we'd swap MLK for Junteenth.

Not celebrating, but I’m flying my flags like I do for every holiday that advanced individual freedom.
If I was celebrating it would be this…

Juneteenth is the day to celebrate emancipation brought about by the Republicans with the Democrats immediately forming KKK. Yet blacks still vote Democratic, astounding stupidity.
