If by “shortly” you mean about 3 weeks later, sure. It was slated to start March 13.
Tell us what YOU or your community was doing with regard to the Coronavirus on February 25.

Cancelling Mardi Gras would've been political suicide regardless of hindsight

I give them a pass on Mardi Gras. The seriousness of this thing was not apparent at that time. I participated fully in Mardi Gras and this situation never crossed my mind. Based upon what we knew at the time, there was no way the elected officials could have gotten away with cancelling Mardi Gras. I did not start taking it seriously until a couple of weeks later when my St. Patrick's Day parade got cancelled and there was enough of an uproar about that at that time. Hindsight is 20/20.

I wasn't going to Mardi Gras. Or any other unnecessary event with a ton of people.
This social distancing stuff is easy when you aren’t invited to any social gatherings.

I think it is bullshite that the mayor blamed Trump for not cancelling it and also think it is bullshite to blame her for not cancelling it. Nobody knew it was this bad and to blame anyone on either side is just politics.

I can't stand going to parades and I resist going every year. I dislike the crowds and the noise. But the wife and kids like to go so I do my duty, and we agreed to Saturday day and Mardi Gras. If there had been the slightest inkling of a threat, I would have used that like a mother fricker to scare my hypochondriatic wife into not going.

I can’t stand JBE or Cantrell and generally agree with Hannity. But if we’re being honest here, everyone would have lost their shite 5-6 weeks ago if politicians cancelled Mardi Gras over a virus that had less than 100 cases nationwide at the time. People were pissed enough as it was because 2 parades were cancelled because drunks got themselves run over by floats. Imagine cancelling all of Mardi Gras

Agreed, Y.A. Hell, my family flew to Disney World on 2/29 for 6 days.
COVID-19 wasn’t on our radar then.
Now that you say it, it’s amazing how much has changed in just a month. I flew through Seattle even exactly one month ago today for vacation and this wasn’t a big deal at all at the time. Walking through the airport you wouldn’t have known anything was going on. The typical few Asian couples wearing masks and that was it.

The only issue I have with it is the number of tards who want to blame Trump for not doing enough but said frick-all about Mardi Gras or NY having a virus-fest in Chinatown to celebrate their New Year.

I don't have a problem with the fact that Mardi Gras went on as scheduled. There wasn't enough "shut it all down" data floating around yet. Plus, New Orleans is barely hanging on as is. Had they shut down Mardi Gras and lost all of that $$$, it would be shite's creek right now.
What I DO have a problem is with Cantrell taking the coward's way out and trying to dump things at President Trump's lap. Had she just come out and said that she made her decision based on the facts available at the time and knowing how important that Mardi Gras was to New Orleans on many levels, I could respect her stance.

The day after Mardi Gras:
"NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The City of New Orleans says it is staying in close contact with the state health department and the Centers for Disease Control regarding the new coronavirus.
The city said Wednesday there have been no diagnosed cases in Louisiana.
The director of the city’s health department held a news conference to update the public. Dr. Jennifer Avegno said the risk to New Orleans and Louisiana remains very low.
While Mardi Gras is of course a destination spot for international travelers the city says they are confident that there was no heightened danger for the coronavirus during carnival season."

nobody had any idea that Coronavirus was going to be this big as it is now.
I did. And I got my information from the damn internet. I knew when they locked down Wuhan on January 23 that it was already too late. I was ready for this shite and had my extended family warned and getting ready by first week in Feb. After that it was just being shocked time after time as our government acted like they didn't know what I knew. Democrats especially. What they did was absolutely a sin against the country. And I think it made it much less possible for Trump to do what needed to be done, although I don't think he understood the implications and was still too focused on the politics.
Doesn't really matter. We're here now. We need to stop crying about it and cope.

The night the NBA was cancelled was the biggest lifestyle turning point for the nation. People in places with zero cases or very few were all of a sudden affected with the loss of sports and eventually mass entertainment. Within hours schools were cancelled and much more soon to follow.
Those with 20/20 hindsight...how does the President manage to save a nation this large and diverse from this virus without having massive economic disruption? No vaccine. No treatment.
Testing everywhere. Thermometer scans. Social distancing. Shelter at home. Masks in public. These measures are what are taking place to various degrees globally and nationally to various levels of effect.
But it would have been very tough to implement these measures in America with so many places with little amount of known cases early on. This is new stuff for us.
California sheltered on March 19th. They have been the gold standard so far. If you extrapolated their cases/deaths nationwide per capita we would be sitting at around 90k positives and 2k deaths. A LOT better but not perfect either.
They are kicking major butt right now. Lets see if they can keep it up.
But I would think California is not going to be sheltered from economic suffering. I think that is mostly inevitable everywhere.
