I have two engineering degrees from schools that are both better than Alabama. I'm guessing that's two more than you, sport.
I knew I liked you. What type of engineering (got two degrees in ME myself)
and lol at the notion that engineers don't understand statistics

This must be personal for you, because I read through this entire thread and you seem absolutely incapable of addressing any of Displaced's points and when he is the one asking for a discussion (albeit in an abraisive manner that you brought upon yourself) you chime in with "you aren't capable of discussing this subject". For a 20 page thread, he hasn't brought that many points up and that is more of a testament of your unwillingness to talk about anything than it is a personal insult to him.
There is one person here replying making fun of autocorrect typos and other assorted nonsense, and there is one person here continuously trying to get the discussion back on gun control. You can guess who is who.
Well let me tell you this, if you ever hope to convince someone of anything, you have to be able to maintain a dialogue; something you have clearly demonstrated you struggle with when faced with disagreement.

Electrical and systems engineering.
Also, have an MBA.
Yeah, what would I know about statistics.

Not as much as BamaAtl because she's just a more caring soul than the rest of us.
And caring > reality.
*sarcasm*

She cares so much that she happily accepts her inflated salary so she can donate it to the Porsche dealership.

Surprisingly very little, for someone who claims to have those degrees.
Huh.

You figure out what data are yet?
How about analysis? A study?
I've been trying to explain them to you for years, but you're apparently incapable of grasping the concept.

Sweet. You're back for another beating!

Canada's gun law would have likely prevented the acquisition of said firearms in the most recent case.

our own gun laws should have prevented the gun acquisition in the most recent case
government failed, as governments usually do
the question is "what policies could have stopped x shooting?" and then we can discuss those policies
most policies floated either ignore the situation at hand or are batshit crazy (like a full out ban attempt on random semi auto rifle types)

The better question is "what policies can prevent the massive excess of shootings that the US has in comparison to other developed, generally peaceful nations."
And in this instance, government failed because Republicans have specifically set it up and defunded it to the point that it was more likely to fail than to succeed. So, yes government failed - as governments usually do when Republicans frick it up.

oh yes
it's much better to go from a specific situation with a discussion over a narrowly tailored legal proposal to prevent that specific situation to a general, vague hypothetical without real clear definitions and no real proposal to speak of. that's the efficient way to discuss policy

DEMs filibustered a law that would have solved this problem
own it

Are you talking about the TX shooting?

Building gun control policy to stop black swan events is dumb.

without real clear definitions
"Fewer gun deaths" is a pretty clear definition

There are mountains of proposals. Numerous policies that we are almost certain would prevent gun violence in this country. That you either don't understand them or don't like them does not speak to their efficacy.

Republicans filibustered the law. Democrats filibustered the amendment to the law that would have made interstate gun buying easier in exchange for slightly strengthened background checks. The Democratic bill did the same without the NRA loophole.

Two things :
1. The gun lobby and likely many posters here would be pleased if existing gun laws were removed or made less strict
2. Enforcement is extraordinarily lax in many places. Historically, weed is harder to come by than a semi-automatic weapon.
How crazy is that?
