It is a structure decision under TAA. It is not simply re-training a BCT for a temporary mission. And there are already controversies about where this will fall on the conventional-unconventional spectrum of operations. USASOC has already indicated they have issues with this concept.

I'm not sure it's been that long (but maybe), but yes - the story that the decedent was drunk and they were horsing around, mock fighting, turns out to be unlikely. Apparently the victim was stone cold sober (may have even been a teetotaler) and the investigation has led them to the corruption motive.

That’s what it has been. The SFAB is the solution for it, a solely dedicated advising brigade.

a temporary mission

We’ll have to disagree on this.

We both know it’s falling under conventional, no matter what color or tab SMA wants to give the unit.

My point in all of this though is that it isn’t breaking up a special ops monopoly. Special ops never had anything to do with this mission.

Id be in favor of just disbanding them and giving their mission to the USMC.

The decision has already been made at DA level. Whether it is ever fully implemented remains to be seen. And we have never had dedicated force structure (not mission, structure) to do this mission outside of SF. This is a huge paradigm shift. And USASOC knows it.

Their longtime marriage with the CIA has resulted in this development. They now have many folks convinced they're the only "defense" we need, along with some drones.

Being the CIA's own personnel army is bullshite

They should just use their fricking spooks for that.

SF has never ever done this mission at the level we are planning SFABs to do it. You are comparing apples and oranges. SFAB will have virtually zero effect on SF advising. SF will continue doing there advising missions.

CIA has an equivalent (albeit smaller) force to DEVGRU/SFOD-D. However, they lever their relationship with the NSC and senior Pentagon leadership to use the uniformed Tier 1 units whenever they can.

Operation Neptune Spear was a CIA-led operation that quite brazenly used DEVGRU's massive PR arm to full advantage.

The Navy can suck it up. They have no need for a ground combat force, conventional or otherwise.

It really doesn't make a lot of sense if you think about it. IMO.

Let’s just say I have a little more expertise than you in force programs and policy and call it a day. Or you can just keep flailing away.

Who would of thought that you can’t move very fast through pluff mud? Any “Marine Butter Bar” cold have told the SEALs that was a bad idea.

Pretty disappointing. I shoot down your “SFAB is the first attempt at breaking up the [Special Ops] monopoly” and your come back is “I have more expertise”. It doesn’t take expertise to know that SFAB isn’t breaking up a special ops monopoly. Anyone with a shred of modern day combat arms experience knows SFAB isn’t breaking up a monopoly, as you call it. Hell you can even go to the SFAB website and see how wrong you are. LINK This has never been a Special Ops mission. But go ahead and throw out “expertise” and “flailing” to make yourself seem superior in this discussion.

Of course the SFAB is going to impact SOF. Milley exploited stated that the SFAB would help SF focus more direct advise and assist combat missions instead of SFA missions.

I'd like to see some links that show the "scope" you claim the 500 man SFAB plans to cover.
