It seems clear it will be a 5-4 decision in favor of the Trump admin.

A major win for Republicans when house seats and electoral votes are reconfigured as it’s estimated 6.5 million fewer people will turn in their census or Mark not a citizen

I keep seeing this posted but I don’t understand why people think it’s decided already after such a short oral argument

California will flat out refuse and dare the feds to do something about it. It cannot be understated how important the illegals are on their congressional representation and state funding.

When should we expect a decision?

Yeah, but I am going to put something out, and I'd love for a lawyer to correct me on this if I am wrong.

There are requirements for voting in Federal Elections, of which citizenship is obviously one.

BUT the number of electors and Representatives each state gets is based solely on residents, regardless of whether they are US citizens or not?

I think this is very important to know. C'mon Legal Eagles, chime in.

Reading the Constitution it's not real clear. American Indians didn't count, but 3/5th's of a slave did? And non-citizens of other ethnicities counted for this purpose, without any fractions?

Politics and sausages, I get it. But was this issue addressed with the Amendment clarifying the citizenship of former slaves? As nearly as I can gather it has never been addressed by legislation or Supreme Court decision.

They really can't unless they want to undercount their census numbers and that is the exact reason why the plaintiffs are in the court suing the Trump admin for the census question concerning citizenship. They are afraid that asking someone if they are a US citizen will scare them away from participating in the census and the states like California with high illegal immigrant populations will go undercounted.

If they "refuse" they are playing right into the defendant's (Trump admin) hands, at least according to their argument.

What exactly is California going to refuse? The census is administered by the federal government.

They'll just lie. They do it every day. Their whole lives revolve around manipulating the system to their benefit.

Not a lawyer, but that is my understanding as well. Have to be a citizen to vote in a federal election. State and local election rules vary. Electoral college apportionment and # of congressional seats is based on the number of residents, not specifically citizens.

Please explain how this will work.

Will California print its own census form, and steal your mail on the day the federal census is to arrive?

Yes. They will pay illegals cash to steal census forms and replace them with California Approved census forms.

Census takers conduct the “non-response follow-up” portion of the Census. They interview the residents of every household that has not responded via the online or paper forms to collect Census information. Census takers serve as the last line of defense for getting an accurate count, which is critical for federal funding and fair political representation. In 2020, the Census Bureau projects that Census takers may be responsible for recording up to 40 percent of the count.

They’ll send word to the streets to mark citizen, whether you are or not.

The only thing California can do is advise their residents to not fill out the census in protest. If they do this they are only screwing themselves.

I think they should go for it. Prove their the stupidest people in the union.

It’s not even about that. There should not be representation for non-citizens no matter the political affiliation.

That fact that 4 judges are against it is scary for the direction of this country.
