Small business owners trying to save their livelihoods could face up to a year in prison under Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s new emergency rules, unless a key committee fights back.

Members of a key legislative committee are scheduled to meet May 20 to discuss a newly filed emergency rule that criminalizes businesses who defy Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s stay at home order.

Pritzker amended Illinois Department of Public Health rules so business owners can be charged with a Class A misdemeanor for violating his closure order. The rule immediately took effect Friday, and now business owners can face a maximum penalty fine of $2,500 and one year in prison. Since this new rule was filed as an emergency rule, it would be effective for 150 days.

The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, or JCAR, is facing pressure to strike down Pritzker’s new rule at its Wednesday meeting, scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Take your country back or they will RULE you.

Or just keep letting these Democrats have the rope to hang themselves with this November.

Someone tell me why it would be wrong for this guy to meet an untimely end again?

Because I don't think it would be wrong. I think it would be appropriate.

He’s punishing his enemies and rewarding his supporters.

Illinois numbers have been trending down for 3 weeks now.

This is not about public health. This is about a fascist that wants to maintain control and penalize businesses.

I never thought I would long for the days when Dan and Lisa Madigan would run the State and tell the Governor what to do.

Yeah, ISP just posted this a bit ago.

My phone died as I was trying to post a screenshot.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Illinois State Police (ISP) continues to focus on community caretaking, educating citizens and businesses and urging voluntary compliance.
As part of that effort, the ISP will act incrementally to urge compliance of the executive order.
Consistent with this community spirit and with state law, policy guidance and discretion, the Illinois State Police will not issue any criminal misdemeanors to individuals for violations of temporary emergency rules or executive orders.
The Illinois State Police will only apply those emergency rules to entities such as corporations, LLPs or other business entities consistent with state and constitutional law. No individual will be arrested or taken to jail for a violation of the Executive Orders or emergency rules. We encourage all citizens to continue to do their part to maintain public health as we move forward in the days ahead with Reopening Illinois.

Aren’t we due for an Illinois Governor to get arrested for corruption again?

We moved to Illinois in 2019.

I think we made a mistake.

Everything we love about Chicago and hated about Pittsburgh (food, restaurant scene, amenities, entertainment) is being killed by Pritzker’s policies.

A lot of local restaurants and shops yhat have been around 20+ years are closing up. Chains too. He’s turning this place into a giant version of Cleveland.

It has surpassed incrementalism, let them rot and give that glorious orange sob all the ammo he can gather for November

Considering how the governor looks, I figured he’d be more friendly toward restaurants

The silver lining is that it’s starting to backfire in my area. People are seeing what’s happening, and they aren’t blaming the virus or the Feds.

Tomorrow is the big day, state legislater back in session. Bring on the shenanigans.
