I wonder how much of this is going on with the TV networks as well??

This is about the most un-American stuff I've ever heard. I'm genuinely sad.

Leaked Documents Outline DHS’s Plans to Police Disinformation

THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY is quietly broadening its efforts to curb speech it considers dangerous, an investigation by The Intercept has found. Years of internal DHS memos, emails, and documents — obtained via leaks and an ongoing lawsuit, as well as public documents — illustrate an expansive effort by the agency to influence tech platforms.

Behind closed doors, and through pressure on private platforms, the U.S. government has used its power to try to shape online discourse. According to meeting minutes and other records appended to a lawsuit filed by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, a Republican who is also running for Senate, discussions have ranged from the scale and scope of government intervention in online discourse to the mechanics of streamlining takedown requests for false or intentionally misleading information.

“Platforms have got to get comfortable with gov’t. It’s really interesting how hesitant they remain,” Microsoft executive Matt Masterson, a former DHS official, texted Jen Easterly, a DHS director, in February.

There is also a formalized process for government officials to directly flag content on Facebook or Instagram and request that it be throttled or suppressed through a special Facebook portal that requires a government or law enforcement email to use. At the time of writing, the “content request system” at facebook.com/xtakedowns/login is still live. DHS and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, did not respond to a request for comment. The FBI declined to comment.

Prior to the 2020 election, tech companies including Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Discord, Wikipedia, Microsoft, LinkedIn, and Verizon Media met on a monthly basis with the FBI, CISA, and other government representatives. According to NBC News, the meetings were part of an initiative, still ongoing, between the private sector and government to discuss how firms would handle misinformation during the election.

I've been saying this for years. The primary aim of social media is not profit-based, but rather to create and control political narratives for the ruling class.

If I vocalized what ought to happen to many members of our ruling class, I’d likely be sent to the gulags.

No, but we have been called all kinds of vile names by people like you and people for which you vote for suggesting this.

And yes, I'm sad because here's the proof and it's a sad day for America.

No, this is them trying to save face before it's too late. They leaked this to the Woke Intercept for a reason. It's because Elon bought the platform and was going to reveal it anyway. Plus Congress is about to go Republican. Those are the only two reasons they did this.

And this is why we don't have a single leftist in here trying to smear the source. lol

That's one of the best things about this. The story is sad sad sad but the source is leftists themselves so they can't claim muh right wing site.

Its coming up in all of the litigation over this anyway.

Tons of text messages and emails that are pretty damn chilling.

The FBI literally worked with Facebook to stop narratives that made the US Government look bad.

Wait, blocking Musk's purchase of Twitter is bailing him out? That's what the left is running with now?

They're not bailing him out, they're trying to shut him down. And we all know why.

This is why I just laugh at any Prog that says Trump was an "authoritarian". He was the worst authoritarian in the history of the world.

Leftists can't win on ideas, so they always go full fascist, then project their tendencies unto their enemies.

They were trying to "prebunk" the story. These people are sick!

From the article - In late February, Easterly texted with Matthew Masterson, a representative at Microsoft who formerly worked at CISA, that she is “trying to get us in a place where Fed can work with platforms to better understand mis/dis trends so relevant agencies can try to prebunk/debunk as useful.”

Most of us knew this was occurring, even the left wingers. They just didn't care because it generally benefited them which is why they are pitching an absolute bitch fit over Musk taking over Twitter. It's glorious

They aren’t worried about misinformation. They are worried about people waking up and seeing the BS for themselves
