That’s 17%. 11% of the US lives in poverty, it’s not that surprising that there are more poor people that live in Louisiana given the socioeconomic conditions.

More poor people live in texas, florida and claifornia. Their populations are just soo much bigger. They also have more rich people.

I'll give you an example of this. California has more republicans than Louisiana has residents.

Perhaps Gov. Jeff can persuade the Chinese to send us enough rice and chitlins to feed these hungry masses ?

How many of that 793,000 will be required to meet the new 80 hours of work requirements per month?

I have a full time job visiting groceries stores. The amount of people not working is unbelievable. Every store smells like weed except Target.

Shaquanda and her 11 kids by 9 fathers makes it hard for me to feel bad about them having to do without free shite my taxes pay for. You will see who the truly trashy people are when they take this as an excuse to riot and steal from businesses and burn them down. Maybe instead of working on her back with her legs in the air get a real job and stop looking for a handout.

At the moment, with American farmers being put in bad positions by the tariff trade war... attacking SNAP and any of that is screwing the system up further.

I don’t care. The entire SNAP program needs to end. The entire program has been plagued by waste, fraud, and abuse for years.

Also, given that most “food” purchased by the SNAP crowd is highly processed carb or corn syrup loaded junk, I think the impact on farmers will be minimal.

The waste, fraud and abuse doesn't matter. What matters is that the entire American food production and distribution system stays in business. That one or two bad years don't put things out of business that cause trouble later.

The government doesn't care about doing things for poor people, it cares about the food system being healthy. The system produces way too much... part of thsi is paying farmers to skip planting a year or two or three, or to destroy their yields so the market isn't overwhelmed. Prices crash... the amount of food thrown out by grocery stores is staggering. The stores don't eat most of that; they get credit for unsold food from distributors. If the distributors lose too much in this process, they start ordering less. Then, producers and farmers start making less money, some fold, and some cut back. As a result, we have supply shortages.

Food assistance programs mean there's less food that sits on the shelves until it's expiration date and somebody loses money.... even if it's used for highly processed carb or corn syrup loaded junk, it's offsetting something somewhere else.

The biggest money loser for grocery stores and distributors is fresh produce. It goes bad very quickly. In general, a store like WalMart will have tons of it, losing money, when they first open a store... because people judge the store by how much of it they carry. Then once they've put the competition in town out of business, they cut way back on stocking produce... pretty much carrying as little of it as they can in "poor" areas. The thing about highly processed carb or corn syrup loaded junk is that it has a shelf-life of years, usually.

This is good.

People don’t understand the implications of canceling these outright.

There’s a way to do things properly.
