Gov. Kemp’s ban of mask mandates puts Georgia on collision course with its cities

Gov. Brian Kemp for the first time spelled out that cities and counties can’t mandate the use of masks, triggering a furious reaction from local government officials who accused the Republican of placing his political interests above their efforts to protect residents from a growing pandemic.
The governor’s order, signed late Wednesday, puts the state on a collision course with local leaders and public health experts who say requiring face coverings is an essential step to containing the spread of the coronavirus.
Though Kemp’s previous orders have barred local governments from taking more restrictive steps than the state, the rules he signed on Wednesday were the first to explicitly ban cities and counties from requiring the use of masks or other face coverings.
The governor has said he believes requiring masks are a “bridge too far” and that such a mandate is unenforceable. Instead, he’s forcefully urged Georgians to don face coverings and warned not doing so threatens the college football season.

In other words they're mad because he's stopping them from putting their political interest above the rights of citizens

Freaking love Kemp’s leadership through this. I shudder to think what the state of GA would look like if that gap toothed race baiter had won.

He’s repeatedly said to wear a mask but he’s not going force anyone too. Thats the way it should be IMO.

Everyone in Georgia is wearing masks. I live in Atlanta and visit Athens frequently for work. Everyone I see out is wearing masks.
The hysteria around people refusing or the need for mandates is dumb.

It sounds like the power hungry bureaucrats are throwing a temper tantrum. lol
I am liking Kemp more and more each day! Thank GOD that Stacey Abrams didn't win.

Me and the wife (mostly her lol) had it out with a Best Buy employee yesterday in Kennesaw. He said we couldn’t shop there without a mask on. After some discussion we just left. So ridiculous. Walmart and Kroger will now require masks. So Publix it is! I’m sure they aren’t far behind though. Then off to Aldi. If they require masks then we also have membership to Restaurant Depot. Then we’ll go to Mexican Supermercado’s. And Farmers markets. Avoid masks as long as we can.

Athens has been under a mandate.

This is completely false. This week alone I've been in Tifton, Covington, Fitzgerald, Atlanta/Roswell/Marietta, and Crisp County (Cordele).
I live and work in Georgia and I'm in multiple communities throughout the state each and every workday, including visits to Athens on occasion.
Your statement would be more accurate if you claimed "approx. 30%-40% are wearing masks" instead of "everyone."

Guess who controls the money. The State Government.

You and your wife are pieces of shite. Best Buy has a nationwide mask mandate in their stores. That hourly employee you berated has not control over that. Thanks for letting the board know what shitty people you and your wife are.

Exactly. It's the Democratic mayors that are pissed at this for exactly the reason you say.
Fuuuuuuuck them.

As a small government conservative, I have always felt the more decisions you can push down to the lower levels of government, the better. The government that is closest to the people, in theory, governs best.
So, I am 100 percent opposed to JBE's statewide mask mandate, because I don't believe it should be a statewide mandate.
I am also 100 percent opposed to Kemp's ban of local mandates. If a local government (city, or in an unincorporated area, county) wants to have a mandate, that should be their choice. If someone disagrees with it, that's why we have elections on a recurring basis.
One of the worst parts of the PT board, is how so many of you are willing to bend your standards depending on the party in charge, or the issue at hand.

We did flatten the curve. We didn't kill the curve. When we removed restrictions, guess what, the curve started going up again.
I don't think these masks do crap for helping flatten the curve. I do think if you want to flatten the curve, lockdowns seem to work. But lockdowns create much worse issues.
