If you don't believe that most immigrants who have come to the US have succeeded beyond what they would in their homelands, you don't understand the melting pot, E Pluribus Unum or american history, and a link probably isn't going to change that.

Why bring in poor people who drive cabs or work at 7-11’s when we have millions and millions of Americans that have no job and gamg bang all day. Cut off the food stamp cards, stop immigration immediately and make the trailer trash and hood rats work or starve.

Firstly, the vast majority of the immigrants that founded this country came here with NOTHING. The premise that America will become third world just because poor people immigrate here is absurd. If that was true, we would have become a third world country generations ago.
Secondly, this board melts over the H1B Visa program. I can't imagine what they'd do if we restricted our immigration policy to only college educated, job ready immigrants. Muh jobs!
I do agree with you about dumping social programs for all people. Period.
As a country, you WANT the dirt poor immigrant that's willing to give up EVERYTHING and risk all they have in the world just to get here. In my experience, these are the most grateful, hard working, and successful people that come here. They tend to be the most proud Americans you'll meet.

Lots of reasons:
- gangbangers ain't gonna suddenly change their ways and become upstanding citizens who work unskilled jobs.
- you're allowing people to be productive members of a global economy instead of sitting in their home countries, waiting to be brainwashed/conscripted into a violent cause
- their ties to their home country means that the US will have better relations with that country. A global community makes war less likely.
- immigrants create jobs and force labor costs down. There is no finite number of jobs. "They took er jobs!" just isn't true on a macroeconomic scale.

I’ve never understood why some countries continue to suffer. Brazil, for example, should be an extremely wealthy country. There are many other examples. People from places that consistently under perform prefer to come here. They usually make great neighbors, but there are areas of concentrated immigrants that likely look a lot like their home country. You should put down your home flag and pick up the US flag. Just my opinion.
Is it possible those countries that we import a higher number of folks from help keep their corrupt govts in power? If you were born there, would you feel you have a better chance getting to the US or fixing your problem an country?

Have you been to any of these places? Sure many of the governments are corrupt, but I've found the people to be some of the most hard-working, down to earth, and hospitable people I've come across. I would gladly take them over many Americans - especially whiny blue-haired feminists complaining about not having free birth control.

Incorrect. I do disagree with him because Africa as a continent is not a “shithole” and it is embarrassing that this is even being discussed much less because the POTUS was the one who said it.
