What do you base this on? Plenty (if not most) of the immigrants in this country escaped poverty in their homelands, built a career, had a family and produced productive, proud patriots.

To ask why people from shithole countries would want to immigrate here is an extremely stupid question.
And to suggest that they don't contribute is simply ignorant. Many African immigrants are better educated and contribute more than the average American.

If they choose to assimilate then yes. When not it’s hell. You go into some communities made up of central or South American immigrants and it’s backwards, violent and years behind typical American society. Same for middle eastern immigrant communities.
Key to immigration is demanding assimilation. If you want America to become your old country then go back.

Third world Immigrants know their old countries are shitholes, it's why they came here. If their shithole countries were on par with western countries, they wouldn't have dropped everything to come over here.

Patience. You can't demand that people change their entire way of life immediately because it doesn't suit your sense of normal. There are growing pains on both sides, immigrant and host. Patience. You just hit on a key point...that's not the proper path to immigrate and become a U.S. citizen. Dropping everything and coming here, unless it is via valid green card, is illegal.
This is the proper context to view his remarks, but he should not have said that surrounded by the enemy.
