This argument sounds a lot like domestic wealth arguments Democrats make that rely on the idea that if someone else is getting richer, you are getting poorer.

It's been discussed multiple times on this board.
It began with the willing acceptance of impediments to US trade and exports by Europe and Japan after WWII in order to rebuild their economies. It just never ended.
