Why not, at least privately? Aren't you removing their individual right to freedom of religion otherwise?

Politicians have worldviews that dictate how they act, just like everyone else. Those worldviews are shaped by many different things, such as life experiences, knowledge, and beliefs. You cannot separate religion from a worldview for a person who is religious because it is part of who they are, how they think, and (hopefully) how they act. Christians who hold to the Bible to shape their worldviews are no different than Atheists who hold to naturalistic materialism and humanism for their worldviews in the sense that they both have beliefs that shape how they view the world and act within it. The only difference is the particular foundations that shape those worldviews.

Okay I get your point. But this specifically, "Noah worked until 600, so you shouldn't retire. Our culture is wrong." That isn't really based on a religious teaching. That's just someone pulling something out of the bible to make an economic policy proposal. It's not right.

Then why are you defending a Christian citing Christian bible stories to influence policy?

You guys sure are liberal with words like "scary" when it comes to politics.

How in the world is it "scary" that he has a personal belief in the Biblical narrative of Noah and that his application of it is that he doesn't see a Biblical command to retire from working?

Faith doesn't necessarily correlate to intelligence, leadership ability, or any other quality it takes to be a leader. There are great leaders who had religious faith and bad leaders who had none, and vice versa.

So you think it's okay that someone truly believes a man centuries ago lived to 600 years old and that means people today shouldn't retire?

Good Lord. I'm starting to understand why people from the North think we southerners are just retarded hicks.

If he had a (D) by his name he'd be sentenced to the gallows by this board.

Instead he's a man's man who'll bring pain to D.C.

And people are too stupid to realize this. If Obama did the exact shite Trump is doing, Republicans would be calling for impeachment and Democrats would be defending him to the death.

While that's a very specific example, you could also have some politician say that they were taught from their pappy when they were growing up that if you weren't working, you weren't being productive and therefore were just a waste of space and use that as a justification for an economic policy proposal. Same outcome, different reason. Others still have to vote on it regardless of the reason and if it isn't in the best interest of citizens (or special interests, depending on your view of influence), it won't get far anyway.

No. I think that's a terrible application of the story of Noah and I don't think God was trying to tell us anything about retirement. I don't think a misunderstanding or a misapplication disqualifies him from being a politician, though.

Actually, he would not be at all.

What the board would do is the same thing they did every time Obama invoked his faith on a political topic: they would call out the proggies here for their hypocrisy.

So, swing and a miss.

Besides, as an atheist, I see nothing wrong with what he's saying. IMO, he's saying "look, if this cat can live to be 600 and never retire, then I'll work hard and bust my arse my entire life". I see nothing wrong with that, if that's how he chooses to do it.

The day he starts cutting my retirement plan based on his beliefs is the day I will feign outrage at this religious zealot.

Wow!

No freedom of speech or religion in your utopia! Scary! You appear to want to violate the prohibition of religious test and establishment clauses! Can't hold office if you believe and espouse a religious belief!? Wow! Only atheists need apply?

Fortunately, we all have the God given and Constitutional right to believe any religious beliefs and proclaim them. All, Catholic and Protestant, Jew, Muslim, Eastern beliefs, Satanist, atheist, agnostics, etc. can run for and hold office!

Also fortunately, you have the right to be an anti religious bigot, and you can advocate and use any formula to vote for your political representatives. God and the Constitution give you the right to be as tolerant or intolerant as you please!

Gianforte is also a Young Earth Creationist who believes that men and dinosaurs coexisted, and the latter were killed off in the Great Flood.

Not according to the linked hit piece! It said he believes that dinosaurs were included on the Ark. Something like: aardvark (check), alligator (check), allosaurus (check), armadillo (check),...
Do you have a different sauce?

Compound this with his hairbreadth temper, and you have to ask: what were the people of Montana thinking?

Well like all people everywhere they each have their own unique thoughts. But, if I had to guess, I think the majority ranked keeping big daddy government out of their homes very high on the list!

I don't need to be reminded to cross off Montana as a potential holiday destination. The place just seems so backward.

I wouldn't give this a second thought if I were you. Montana was doing fine before you were born, and it will do well after you die. Also since the vast majority have never been exposed to your individual wonderfulness, they haven't even given you a first though!

As a fellow Christian I compliment you on your religious choice. But also as a Christian, I would tolerate a different religious choice. If given the opportunity, I would try to give you the gift of exposure to Christ, however.
