That’s going to depend on who controls the lithium. Right now, it’s not us or any friendly nation.

Ive heard its expensive i just wasnt aware of how often. Every 3 years and i would never buy one. Every 10 or 15 years, seems more practical.

It varies wildly. Thats part of the problem with EV’s.

15ish with normal use for most of them with some variation and Tesla being the best. There’s some personal factors that vary like how often you charge, supercharge and a tolerance for degradation.

Now factor in the invisible costs of mining and building the battery.

That’s on China using their slave labor and ruining their environment with strip mines and chemicals. Not on the minds of EV buyers here.

Adding the costs of the subsidies to the true cost of fueling an EV would equate to an EV owner paying $17.33 per gallon of gasoline," study authors Brent Bennett and Jason Isaac write.
And people will believe that, that's the craziest part.
People believe what their biases and preconceptions TELL them to believe.

Study after study has shown that MOST humans form an opinion and then look for supporting facts, rather than looking at the facts and THEN forming an opinion. It is what it is.

Is there any topic you’re adequately informed on? Because to date we’ve yet to find one.

Im ignorant on battery replacements for EVs
“Recurrent estimates the out-of-pocket cost for a replacement ranges from $5,000 to $20,000. The total cost largely depends on the pack, size and manufacturer of the battery.

According to J.D. Power, the cost of replacing a battery in the Tesla Model 3 is approximately $13,000, which is over 30% of the sedan’s starting price. Recurrent estimates the total cost to replace the Model 3’s battery is around $15,800 when labor is included.”

Actual number, no clue.

But I can tell you factually that I pay less on charging per month than I do on gas, because I have 1 of each type of vehicle, so it's no that hard to figure out. Not to mention the car also tells you exactly how much energy you're using, paying for and will tell you the difference in what you paid for that vs what you'd have paid for the same amount of miles in gas, right down to the area you live in averaging out gas prices for that area.

The $17 number is at the very least 10-15x too high.

On a factual note I have no idea about the $17 per gallon but there are substantial cost not include it in a number of discussions on EV

However, the purpose of my post is to specifically discuss technology

Even if you assume that a vehicle you want today with the last seven years with the batteries, the technology in the newer vehicle will have changed completely.

How many people are running a seven-year-old window system today? How many people have seven year old cell phones?

In seven years the battery technology may see the company to not even produce batteries suitable for a seven year old vehicle. Also the technology will most likely not be updated or updatable that far into the future to run the machines with the technology needed.

We are living in a throwaway society. Once it becomes on profitable to support these older vehicles it will stop.

For me, as long as there is gasoline I will be driving

Heating a home with natural gas costs about 1/4 the amount that it would cost with electric heat. That simple fact tends to indicate that the cost of EV charging is much higher than claimed.
