Why the frick would we want that?

Cuba is a shithole that would be an even larger drag on our country than Puerto Rico is.

Cuba is much closer to the US and development would be guaranteed.
I would support it becoming a state, but not a territory.

Yea, let’s waste hundreds of billions over decades to drag Cuba and its 10 million people out of the 1950’s

And since this is a political board, you’ve just given the Democrats 2 new senate seats and 15 electoral votes.

If US companies want to invest there, our government should let them. The sanctions and embargo are/were stupid. But the government shouldn’t spend a dime there

Cuba were a state we could have a military base, not only increase national security but also a great position to monitor drug boats, planes flying those routes.

We already have this.

No statehood required.

What would annexing Cuba do for us besides getting rid of the communist running it and becoming rich in cigars? Maybe strategic land for war purposes? Do they have any minerals?

They have sand. It’s good for vacations.

Also I’m all about expanding the American empire

IDK seems like it could potentially be dead weight. We'll have to see.

It would be a top travel destination within 5 years. 10+ resorts would spring up before then. It could soon become a top travel destination in the world.

It's as big as Florida, but 100% surrounded by water

According to Chatgpt "how much oil does Cuba produce annually?

Cuba is a relatively small oil producer. In recent years, it has produced approximately 30,000 to 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day, with about 40,000 barrels per day reported in 2024.

That giant sucking sound you would hear would be all the inhabitants from Cuba moving to the mainland to invade your schools and hospitals. Just think about the great opportunity to allow actual communists with no money to move into your cities. They would all be in Section 8 apartments for the next 40 years. Sounds like a great plan.

Cuba will be more like the Philippines. We sorta run them as a territory for a while but then spin them off as an independent country with a U.S. aligned government that lets us do whatever we want economically without triggering another mass migration to the mainland from Cuba. Canada will be broken into at least 4 pieces: Western Canada and Ontario will each become states. Quebec will be allowed to become nominally independent, but still be a part of a common economic market. The Maritimes will be territories like Puerto Rico as will the northern Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut.

Keep dreaming

The us will be broken up between India Israel and Mexico

We're not getting a 51st state. Ever. Anything we do take on will just be another territory. It costs too damn much to absorb a new state.

I've never been to either, but how is that a bad thing? Generate taxes for the US, all the businesses needed to support it, and more opportunities for the Cuban people.
And I mentioned before, better security for our country, right off our SE coast.
If this happened, how would it directly affect you?

We dont want to own Cuba, just control it. There is a big difference between the Cubans who came here vs the people left in Cuba.

Absorb Northern VA into D.C., and the rest of VA into WVA. This makes room for another State, and solves a problem with the deep-blue rot in NOVA.
