The pay couldn’t be generated without the public contributing the use of their gun, their car, etc

You already have access to all that information and costs.

This means the public has a right to know all details about this side gig, or should

None of your business what I decide to pay a cop or ems etc, sorry, just the way I see it.

For lots of reasons, sounds like a great way to corrupt a few cops and buy influence to me,

Working security at a movie theater, concert, or football games isn’t buying influence or corrupting cops. Private entities have a choice to hire private security or use the local police department, many just choose local police. The pay they get is private not taxpayer, no reason in my opinion it should be shown to the public. If a cop stops in a gas station and buys a coke do I HAVE to be notified because he was in a public vehicle?

So he makes a base of $70 per hour. That's not unusual at all in large cities. As a comparable, the Lousiana department I retired from pays $23 an hour or $48k a year now for uniformed patrolman, with overtime up to $70k if they hustle. The work is always there or requested. So exactly what is policing worth?

Piano movers in NYC make 70K a year. Where you live has a lot to do with your pay based on what it cost to live there.

In Louisiana its just a bit lower...sarc...

The point is, what many have to put up with being cop, the hours alone but also having to deal with the scum of America most days....seems they are earning it. I know the cop hater baws will disagree

This is due to the union. Weird the post didnt blame them but instead chose to make it blue/red.

Are all cops in the police union democrats?

Yes, he does. The OT tax break is for people who make under $160k

One guy ? Yeah, because all of the other Cops in California are on a different pay scale and only make 40k a year. Good Lord people are stupid

Agree. People continue to stick their head in the sand if they believe this guy is the only one. Out here its the cops and the Electrical company employees. One of those employees got caught stealing tools. They pulled his pay for previous year and he was making over 100k plus another 100k in overtime. It happens more then you want to believe. Cops sitting in their cars for parades/construction sites making over 100k in OT on the taxpayers dime.

The highest starting salary in North Carolina is Cary police department at 67k. Raleigh starts at 58k. I know some that's been there for years who make close to 100k but that is with a good amount of overtime, which there is a ton of because they aren't fully staffed.

I just don't understand how this video of the most costly state in the US proves anything. Most firefighters in Cali make at least 150k without overtime. Do you think they don't deserve it either?

California, where criminals are allowed to put stores out of business. Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and Macy’s have all closed or are closing up shop in San Fran recently.

At the time of Nordstrom’s exit, a spokesperson for Westfield told SFGATE that the closure “underscores the deteriorating situation in downtown San Francisco.”

I think the city is down to like one department store after a domino of closures in the last 5 years. Yet cops are making more than ever. Make it make sense.

10+ years ago, under mayor Shirley Franklin in ATL, cops got a huge boost because nobody wanted to be a city of ATL cop, they had a shortage. Boost pay and benefits, no more shortage. The reason it made news is because the firefighters didn't get a boost. Her answer was simple- we don't have a hard time hiring and retaining firemen so we don't have to attract them financially.

I don't care what the pay scale is, it needs to be whatever incentivizes good people to actually do that job. If that's $50k or $500k.

I’ve heard cops get overtime when cases they wrote tickets for go in front of judges

So if an officer gets a subpoena to appear in court on their day off, regarding something they did while on duty, they shouldn’t be paid OT for it??

Most? Nah

What is your solution? Remember most people with any courage don't even want to be cops, so that really limits who you can hire.

Most of the ones I know are former military. Closest friend was a USMC, as many of them are.

One thing my wife and I noticed was the professionalism of city and state employees we encountered while L.A.

And roadwork/ street repairs are done quickly and efficiently. They use lighting and work at night.. That’ actually is a big deal in a city with the traffic of L.A.
Believe it or not services are of high quality and work well in California. Far superior to Louisiana

He’s one cop.
Pretty sure he’s one of the highest paid cops in total comp in California.

That’s why he’s in the meme.
