The point of the OP was to educate clueless "Back the Blue" simpletons who are always whining that cops are underpaid.

I have been on record for years on here saying they are overpaid. You start off kind of low, but if you stick around you move up quick
Don’t we need higher wages to attract better candidates?

I was talking to a high-ish level cop here in the Atlanta area the other day. He said he has a single, 24-year old reporting to him with no family/responsibilities/obligations. He said the dude grinds overtime all year long and makes over $100K in overtime alone.

Cops in any major city or suburb in this country are making 100k on average

It’s interesting to see how salaries differ by region. For example, in 2024, the average salary for police officers in California is around $111,770, while in Mississippi, it’s only about $42,900. This shows how much location matters.
Youre still wrong. Most cops arent making 100k a year even with OT

Damn, another "outlier"

But the Boot Lickers told me it was just a Californi thing

I’ve heard cops get overtime when cases they wrote tickets for go in front of judges. dWI’s are the biggest OT money generator for cops

I know many cops from Shreveport to baton rouge and New Orleans and very few make 100k if any of them. Baton Rouge PD has the same amount of police they had in the 1990s yet the city has grown quite a bit since then. That’s the case with most police and fire departments. Most police who work OT are working detail, they are paid by private companies to do it. Most of their OT isn’t paid from tax payers
The fire department I retired from makes nearly 3 times more calls than when I first started yet man power has increased very little. Less fires but more wrecks and ambulance calls

Which is extra work they are putting in outside of their 40. Base pay here in Louisiana is low, and cops have to take these extra hours in order to try and keep up

"Bosses," plural, including those who do determine and set compensation rules.
The average police officer salaries range between the upper $40s and lower $70s, If you think citing an obvious exception makes those who say "back the blue" clueless simpletons, I don't know what to say to you that you would understand.

What about all the cash and jewelry that come with the busts? What’s the average on that?

Meanwhile, it's not out of the ordinary for small agencies in Alabama to maybe make 50-60k after 10 years, starting at 35-45k. So, no, LAPD Pay cannot be extrapolated nationwide.

Working private events is a side gig though

This shows New Orleans defectives make $82k.
$147k in California is about $117k in Louisiana.
I don't see a problem with this/

Cool but they aren’t being paid by taxpayers so no need for the public to see it

So the county road crew should be available for hire by private entities doing the same (using gear etc)?
Public should be made aware of any funds paid to public employees, especially if the use of public property is involved.

Thread is about pay and some are discussing what the public gets to see. When I worked ems detail for private companies and got paid, it isn’t for the public to see. I have no way of doing the job unless they want to provide me with everything. Police still need their car and gear, but their pay is coming from private and not taxpayer

If I pay a cop to provide security for a big event it’s really nobody else’s business what I pay them. You are free to see how much the car, guns, and uniform costs as it is

The pay couldn’t be generated without the public contributing the use of their gun, their car, etc. This means the public has a right to know all details about this side gig, or should. This isn’t uncommon at all with other public sector employees. I don’t know if it happens with cops, but it should.

It absolutely should be if they are using any public owned equipment to fulfill the duties of this job. For lots of reasons, sounds like a great way to corrupt a few cops and buy influence to me, without the scrutiny of the public eye.
