Geography pretty much rules that out. Zagros mountains are tough territory. The there are the salt deserts up on the Iranian plateau which can be brutal for an army to cross

No ground invasion. We would go in and whip the crap out of them with our armor and air support. Then the crazies hide out and plant IEDs, snipe at our troops etc. it would be hard to tell friend from foe and we wouldn’t be brutal enough to stop it. I reference Afghanistan.
We can distribute arms to start an uprising, provide intel, provide air support, hack, disrupt communications.
This isn’t WW2 and we aren’t invading Normandy.

I think the amount of people who support a ground invasion is small, but the issue is that many people are naive and think we can accomplish our objectives (whatever they are) without a ground invasion. The reality is:
A) nuanced political, cultural, and religious dynamics exist and it’s impossible to accomplish successful regime change in the Middle East without significant, sustained ground presence.
B) the people surrounding Trump all supported the Iraq War until about a decade ago. Rubio, Hegseth, Waltz are all big time neocons and only recently changed their tunes on nation building when it fell out of favor in the GOP.

Well it’s obvious that regime change is an objective, but to what end? Glad to clarify for people who are a little slower, like you.

He’s got these backwards.
The Marines won’t be used to seize Kharg Island. Their mostly likely objectives would be the islands in the strait of Hormuz. If we do take Kharg Island it’s guess it would be rangers using a helo assault from Kuwait or Iraqi territory.
Anyone who can read a map should be able to figure this out. Especially a Green Beret.
