When would a presidential debate normally take place, "X"amount of days before the election? To me, the longer the debate is put off, the more he deteriorates.And say he totally collapses before the convention / election, does she automatically get the bid?

If it happens before the convention, Bernie becomes candidate according to the rules-lawyers.
If it happens after the convention, Kamala becomes candidate.
Both of those are losing scenarios for the Dems, IMHO, because Bernie is too left for many while Kamala is hugely unlikeable.
