The most recent USDA data reveals that 38,845,997 Americans took part in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the federal government program responsible for administering food stamps, in August 2018.
The last time American participation in the food stamp program dipped this low was nine years ago, when 38,184,306 Americans received food stamps, according to the data.
The most up-to-date numbers also show enrollment in food stamps has declined for ten straight months.
October to November: 4,050,688
November to December: 357,508
December to January: 740,952
January to February: 385,456
February to March: 39,701
March to April: 426,055
April to May: 139,570
May to June: 143,834
June to July: 383,883
July to August: 114,569

Are you sure those are participation numbers and not how many people died each month due to not getting food stamps?

First Trump rips kids from their parents arms, now he starves them. How many people have to die before the deplorables understand that they're supporting literally Hitler?

Because the requirement for Stamps was brought down low.
For example, you get Stamps if you make below $2,200 a month as a family of 3.
Most minimum wage jobs are $300 a week.
Even with two minimum wage earners, you get Stamps. That's gonna be a lot of people with our service industry culture...instead of industy/industry culture.

38 million and I get in line behind a 23 year old blimp buying 2 large bags of Lays potato chips and a 2 liter Coca-Cola with her EBT card.

There is a regulation where food stamps are more easily available in areas where unemployment is higher within states. With the financial crisis most states opted to open it up to everyone.
In the past couple of years states have opted to start cutting back on the counties where its easy to qualify, so its the states that are driving this (even though its a federal program).
And as you might guess, cali decided to move back this decision to sometime next year, enabling an incremental, not total, but an incremental 800,000 remain on the rolls when they should have pulled them off. Betcha NY, IL, etc are probably right there with them.
The key point here is that the state sets a timeline and you either get a job, school, training, or get off food stamps. They are not suddenly getting jobs, THEY HAD JOBS, cash jobs, and just get removed from the rolls when the timeline runs out.

Amazing, you make it more difficult to receive assistance and then fewer people receive it, I'm shocked SHOCKED at these results.
Meanwhile, actual poverty is increasing in Louisiana.

The measure of success in the world of Progressives is how many people you can enroll in social welfare.

So, 9 years ago, so basically resetting the landscape prior to Obama?

It's still a sorry program. I'm okay for assistance for those who truly need it but Cheeto's and urange drank shouldn't be allowed. It should resemble WICK.

New Orleans has the highest poverty rate among America’s 50 largest metro areas at 18.6 percent. But several Louisiana cities had higher rates of poverty, led by Opelousas at 26.3 percent.
Democrat leadership in Louisiana. It’s their goal.
Meanwhile:

Doesnt matter, you can go to any inner city and easily find a store that will take it for cigs and alcohol.

Actually, I would love it if nobody needed food stamps.
But they way to do that is not by making the qualifications so difficult.
Do it by actually reducing poverty. And the way to do that is by enacting policies that focus on the middle class, and not on the 1%.
Have a trickle up economy instead of a trickle down one.

And if you'll notice, the left will be damned if the people aren't reliant on the government for everything.
I never have seen such a large group so willing to be subjugated. Is it just that much of a fear of personal responsibility? Is it a fear of obligation? Or is it just plain laziness?

I worked my way through college as a maintenance man for 141 HUD units, trust me, it gets traded for things other than smokes and booze. Definitely a currency.
