FYI, we have traveled to every big city in the USA , except Chicago.
Grew up in Nola, but live on the Northshore.
Just not into the Austin vibe. It’s not for everyone, and that’s ok.

I lived there for a few years in the 80’s. It was a whole different world back then, you can’t even imagine. It got flooded with California transplants that brought their leftist views and they continued to breed many little libs who now vote Marxist/Dem

I was unimpressed with Austin. Hill country was cool, Austin, not so much. There are quite a few other places to visit / re-visit.

Austin is not one of them for me.

Dress like a homeless person. It will be easier to walk around.

How is Georgetown these days? My grandparents used to have a farm between Hutto and Georgetown (i lived in Round Rock) I always liked Georgetown. Was a neat little town. I used to like going to the small single screen movie theater. But it closed long long ago.
It amazed me how much its grown. Hutto blew up too even Plugerville. My grandparents sold to a developer and moved to SA and i haven't been to Williamson county in a long time.

We have a house in the hill country and no one goes to Austin if it’s avoidable

The suburbs are decent but the city is full out Trans/lib cult

Well you are in East fukin Austin.
Very ethnic side of town.

Report back when you actually go to some desired areas like the Lakeway, Westlake and other nice suburb areas of the city.
Then tell me you think it compares to Louisiana.

the largest catfish farms in the USA are primarily located in Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas why is convention in crappy Austin?

Texas is 4th in catfish production followed by Louisiana. The Catfish Institute (industry marketing organization) is making a strong marketing push to expand sales in Texas and it’s been successful

CFA convention alternates years between production states and a random city/destination. We have had them in Savannah, Ga, San Diego, Las Vegas (this one was awesome), and many other places.

I've been in the Austin area for 20 years and it's not what it used to be. When I came here, it was still the blue city with hippies and good music and tons of things to do. It was clean, safe, and not much to worry about. Just easy living with some solid tech industry.
The Californians and progressives have taken over. Now there's graffiti everywhere, homeless people everywhere, crime has skyrocketed, it's gotten ridiculously expensive and crowded. I live as far outside of town as my wife would agree to.
There's still some great areas, but you have to get away from downtown.

I’ve also been here for 20 and while I agree it’s not the quaint up and coming city it was at that time, it still is a much better city than people give it credit for and just prefer to consider it shitty because it makes them feel better about the shite hole state and areas they actually live.

There are many great neighborhoods around Austin that are great. Not necessarily in DTown, but they are probably even more desirable than ever considering the issues already mentioned in this thread with the Libs and homeless situation.

If you have time, get out of Austin and take a road trip a bit to the west and see the Hill Country. Let me know if you want suggestions. It is getting more and more touristy every year but still worth seeing the scenery. I grew up there, and it has changed so much with development over the years. The same can be said for Austin. Austin has always had a lib/hippie faction but over the years it has become a liberal bastion, especially with the influx of primarily Cali libs.
