You want to redistribute wealth via expansion of government power, moving resources/wealth from producers to non-producers.

You are lying! Mainly to yourself!

BS... He lowered Corp tax.

He also was smart enough to place a tariff (never has it been a communist thing) while allowing companies to avoid that if they built here!

Which many did!

Before free trade with communist nations, our economy could and did sustain a family with 1 worker in the family.

Once free trade effects started coming in, it took both parents to sustain that same lifestyle.

That has had a massive effect on our society as well.

Again, "muh corporations" is even a Leftist talking point.

Good or bad, this has nothing to do with trade at all

It most certainly does! It's due to trade with that nation that allowed them a foothold in this nation where nothing is done about it because nobody wants to have their money pulled away.

You are very narrowed minded and short sited.

Yeah and then rule over a country of paupers and economic ruin. Even if you're right, then China's economy is...fricked.

They don't have the infrastructure or power to do this. They haven't actually developed their economy, which is why they're fricked. All China has done is overvalue its short-term perceived gains fueled by debt...and steal IP from others.

Again, they don’t give two fricks about debt.

As for ruling over paupers, again, they don’t give a shite, as there will fewer of them to rule over anyway. Besides, whoever is left will be needed for menial tasks (sanitation etc.)

Lastly, I would wager a yuan that China has stolen a shot ton of IP that is related to automation. Couple that with their virtual monopoly of Rare Earth elements and the CCP will turn those frowns upside down.

Free trade has benefited the US like no nation since Rome, brother. We're not the most powerful nation on Earth solely because of our military. Hell, our military is primarily there to protect international trade (of which we benefit more than any other country on Earth and it's not close).

We aren’t talking history.

This is about what may happen.

You say China has no international presence. I say that you are a fool to believe so.

You say that governmental policy exists in a vacuum, and isn’t influenced by the worlds second largest economy, and the 4th (3rd in reality?) largest nuclear arms power. I say that is foolish.

You act as though the political prostitutes in DC aren’t kowtowing to the CCP. Again...foolish.

I have agreed with your take on a plethora of subjects. This isn’t one. A myopic view on trade doesn’t compute in this day and age.

Jobs have been leaving the country for 30 years now, blames Trump.

That's a simpleton's response, or maybe you didn't bother reading the thread.

I didn't blame Trump for 30 years of manufacturing moving offshore. I made a counterargument to the notion that Trump gets an A+ in trade because he shitcanned a couple of treaties and fricked China a little, when the reality is it makes no difference to the balance of trade whether a flashlight is manufactured in China or Vietnam. Trump did nothing better or worse than presidents the last 50 years.

Anybody thinking that this trend set for 50 years was going to change over night was simply not thinking.

This is a process that will take time, but it's more than doable. Until we decide to take on the fight for future generations, we will be nothing more than a puppet state.

Exactly. It would have been nice if Trump had kicked the effort off during his term.

It's because the RINOs sold a bill of goods to the people of the USA that they are better off giving up their jobs for a cheap product.

Oh really?

Go to a shop of any kind.

Put tshirts or socks in a bin.

Put up a sign -

Socks, made in China - One dollar.
Socks Made in America - One dollar and twenty five cents.

The people made the choice to buy the cheaper product, RINOS didn't SELL them on anything they CHOSE to do buy foreign.

Do you feel warm and fuzzy inside when American taxpayer money is stolen and given to foreign shitholes?

He doesn't even understand what you are talking about.

This is the guy who told the board there was no such thing as electrical steel! His name is Powerman.. and "This is my field. I know there isn't Trump lied"...

Once pointed out that it's a needed material for our grid, he left for a while.

It is sheer coincidence that the massive decline in US manufacturing jobs began at the same time that China was admitted to the WTO.

US government social spending as a % of GDP also increased since 2000. The US debt total also steadily grew.

So the American consumer is looking at those $1 Chinese socks vs $1.25 American socks.
They may know that paying 25 cents more would help an American worker keep their job. But they also know that the US government is running up an infinite credit card to pay for unemployment, job training programs, SNAP, WIC, Section 8, etc for that same American worker and decide if they are already on the hook for all of that, why should they also pay the extra 25 cents?
