From your quoted text:

quote:

We find that a tariff hike raises unemployment and lowers inflation”
So, more workers are unemployed so without their wages and salaries coming in to them they can’t afford to buy as much goods and services which causes inflation to cool?

Congrats on the win, I guess…

I'm sure it's more complicated than people make it out to be but that doesn't make me feel any better.

Then how will we bring manufacturing back to the US, if prices don't increase, which is the stated goal of tariffs by Bessent?
False assumption. Any one-off tariff related consumer price increase decreases demand. That correlates to deflationary pressure.

Trump is fixing an economy that needed fixing. Americans are just impatient especially the maga losers that want hand outs - He will be looked back on in history as one of the greats like Lincoln

Yep. Tariffs lead to a raise in unemployment and lower economic activity. That is the gist of the study SDV linked.

What a shitty source.

There is no such thing as an unbalanced budget. It's either paid for with taxes, borrowing or inflation.

So yes, more taxes means less of it would be paid for by means of inflation.

However, to say it lowers inflation is just wrong. Because what causes the inflation is the government spending.

Lowering government spending so that it matched the amount of taxes being collected would all but eliminate inflation.

The manufacturing is coming but will take time for the investments in facilities to be built. The thing that is going to really throw a wrench into the cog is AI. No matter which side of the isle you sit on, there are many jobs going away and never coming back whether you are dem or pub. The manufacturing jobs that tariffs will create are essential to offset the loss of white collar and some blue collar jobs.

Last time I went to Denver I tried to go to this little burger stand and I was surrounded by homeless drug addicts the entire time I was there.

"we find that a tariff hike raises unemployment (lowers economic activity)"

To the surprise of nobody having few people working, and lower economic activity, is deflationary.

What is next, a study telling us how awesome recessions are?

if a business saves 20% by manufacturing overseas but the tariff is 25% then what would the smart business man do?

So prices are lower for American consumers in the period prior to that 25% tariff, correct?

He would move the manufacturing back to the United States.

And charge somewhere between 20-25% more to become profitable.
