Stories associated with the images are interesting.
E.g., The statue in the 1860 photograph is a bronze sculpture of Thomas Jefferson. It is the only full-length statue of a U.S. president ever displayed on White House grounds. It was created in 1834 for Congress.
Congress initially hesitated to accept it due to its bronze material (uncommon at the time) and the sculptor's Jewish background. So it was placed at the White House instead. In 1874, it was finally moved to the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, where it remains today.

Your average dumbass out there has zero clue that The White House was in danger of complete structural failure that led to the Truman reconstruction.
The White House has been an ongoing construction project for over 200 years. The clutching of pearls over this project is beyond stupid.
