Unfortunately this isn't the case. Not because of federal regulations, but mainly state and local.

The incumbent ISPs pay good money to these governments to keep competition out.

Okay so pass a stand alone federal law that forbids that kind of thing. Problem solved, right?

I'm just wondering.

What do you folks think the net profit margin is for ISPs/wireless providers?

It's been spelled out. You can't accept it.

So spell it out.

You have the time for all these responses, make your argument. Or are you scared of getting exposed? Again.

No, that's not proof of anything other than your wanting other internet users to subsidize your TV addiction....

You really have no idea what you are talking about

The days of people buying bulk tv cable is shrinking.

The younger generation finds other ways to obtain their content.

People like you will keep propping up the tv providers.

Some towns and cities have built their own networks with far superior service than a majority of ISPs.

Chattanooga is a good example. Those frickers have 10Gig.

Which was installed before NN.

Open competition just allows the opportunity to compete which may not happen as a utility

There was no "before NN", I don't think you understand what you're talking about. Internet traffic has always been treated equally, now that's under threat.

I guess my favorite part of this whole NN discussion is the Soros versus Paul angle - who do you trust more?

Bc they told the ISPs to frick off

Most cities and towns don't have that option.

[quote]On February 26, 2015, the FCC ruled in favor of net neutrality by reclassifying broadband as a common carrier under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934 and Section 706 of the Telecommunications act of 1996. On April 13, 2015, the FCC published the final rule on its new "Net Neutrality" regulations.

I'd like you to reread your own post. Insert the word internet provider in place of cable TV. Thank you

Corporations arent going to simply take making less money.

There is two options.

1. Pay a much higher base rate for internet This affects everyone. Those who pay for one product or multiple products of a companies line. Not fair to their loyal customers but everyone is equal.

2. Cap data to recoup on people who only buy one of their products to compete with their other product. People who consume more (likely to cheat the system) pay more and the company recoups their lost income.

Given that I obtain content through legal means I prefer option 2.

Huntsville is doing something similar with the dark fiber from the local utility company Huntsville Utilities, but partnering with Google to run from Huntsville Utilities' lines to the home.

Comcast is NOT happy

ETA: I think this is an approach we'll see more of. Utility companies have a vested interest to run fiber to manage the smart grids. But then run a bit extra then lease that dark fiber out to ISPs who can come in and run the "last mile" and provide the switching equipment.

If I'm a major backbone provider like Century Link, I'd jump all over that.

those evil frickers! How dare they not let me use their product to bypass buying their other product! That's just unreasonable
