Jan 6, 2020 to CNN:

“The initial indicators indicate this is not going to be a good season — this is going to be a bad season,”

quote:

CNN reports that Fauci says the 2019-2020 flu season is on track to be as severe as the 2017-2018 season, which was the deadliest in at least a decade.

New data from the CDC released on Friday estimates that so far this season, at least 6.4 million people have caught the flu, 55,000 people have been hospitalized and 2,900 people have died — 800 more people then were estimated the week before.

Yet, 2020 flu deaths recorded by the CDC are considerably less the 2017-18 number - only 5,886 flu deaths from the last week in January thru May 3

Imagine that.

I am one of the last to want to defend Fauci, but I'm sure they were tracking the increase in flu like symptoms, and that's what he was basing that projection on.

I'm not saying there isn't something fricky going on with the reporting between COVID and the flu, but I don't think this is proof of anything.

They need to start working on a Flu stimulus. I wouldn’t mind another tax break.

So, 6,400,000 COVID-19 cases prior to Jan 6?

He's got the dependability of a small town weatherman. I said this six weeks ago, too.

Exactly! Either this bullshite has been around a lot longer than they admit and is much more widespread than they admit to, or they are playing funny numbers.

Neither case is acceptable.

I will say this. Everyone I’ve known who thought they had the virus and tried to get tested, they were tested for flu first. Not sure if that’s the case with everyone, but that’s what I’ve seen.

Well, don't be surprised if we find out months or years from now that many deaths attributable to COVID19 also had positive tests for regular influenza but were counted as part of the pandemic death count.

Gotta get those COVID stats stacked high. Gotta steal the death counts from somewhere

Yet another falsehood from you. You just can't help yourself, can you?

First, the number you are looking at (5,886) is clearly only counting flu deaths from Feb 1 - Today. Obviously, this excludes the meat of flu season. And equally clear is the data is nowhere near complete for the last few weeks. The reasonably complete data ends April 11, so the flu death count from Feb 1 - April 11 is 5,533. For comparison, the 2017-2018 flu season deaths over the same range was 7,506.

This year's flu was roughly 75% as bad as the really bad 2017-2018 season, at least over the specified date range.

You are trying to compare a death cert count of only half of this year's season to the estimated "excess death" count from the 2017-18 season, which if you didn't know is estimated at 60k deaths as compared to the 15k actually counted on death certs for the full year. You are either a world class idiot or a world class liar. Which is it?
