Yes. Brit Hume is minimizing Fauci’s responsibility for the real-world implications of his policies.

Fauci pretends to understand the real world when it suits his needs. So he believed that human behavior would make people hoard masks and keep them from front line medical personnel at the beginning of the pandemic and that drove his initial statements on masks. Further, he believed that people were reticent to get a vaccination so he lowered the estimate of the population that would be needed for herd immunity. He then raised it as he saw some uptick in vaccination approval polls.

So, he does understand human behavior. And we have data on educational outcomes and anxiety and depression outcomes from isolation and data on deaths from the lack of emergency and regular healthcare services. He just chose to ignore all of that when he wanted to.
