Well, considering 80-90% of peeps in my rural hood carry "heavy", this would be fun to watch.

by definition rural areas are sparsely populated so that doesn't seem like a very effective strategy.

The question is why rural areas? You can't get the mass casualties like you can in cities. You can disrupt things like farming, oil production and the electrical grid out there where there isn't a ton of security. To have any real impact, though, it would have to be multiple attacks simultaneously or in a short amount of time.
