“Everything is political” is such an academically bankrupt mantra that people cling to, and it’s absurd

There’s nothing inherently political about a group of 22 guys moving a football around, these governing bodies need to stop trying to inject it into everything

Absolutely they should stay out of politics. I go to LSU games to get away from all the shite in the world. A place we can all come together as one united to cheer on men of all colors to entertain us with their skills on the field. We do not want to see or hear about the so called social injustices which is all politically based crap being pushed daily in the news. If the NCAAA allows this and our players start wearing these messages as an alum I will no longer donate to, or watch any athletic event ever again. I am making my stand.

Like now in college, the national anthem should occur prior to players taking the field and uniforms should be required to all be the same.

It’s not about the stupid patches, it’s the bigger implications of this entire bullshite movement. I don’t see how that is so difficult to understand.

Great response. He sounds like a guy who salivates over the smarmy sophomoric assertions on MSNBC and CNN. Pull things out of context and minimize their significance while refusing to acknowledge the bigger picture.

90% of LSU’s players on scholarship are black

If they are just “entertainment” to you, and you would rather them just shut up, then I can assure you that you not backing LSU football would be very much appreciated. Especially when you choose to act like a child vs an adult

So Lester, you think fans are paying to watch athletes give political speeches written by someone else?

Why not turn on the TV and watch CNN if we want to listen to leftist spout nonsense.

I turn on Sports to watch great athletes show their stuff, I don't care about their politics.

Says every white person ever

That is even more reason to do it. If you don’t care about “their politics” now, you never will. So either learn to be more tolerable of other world views or simply don’t watch & cry in the corner..

So much estrogen on this board. Don’t let the door hit you in the vagina on the way out.

No one had any issue with the team wearing a ribbon after the VT shooting in 2007.

No issue with a patch for the 75th anniversary of the league.

No issue with eye black that has a bible verse on it.

Total Karen meltdown by grown men if the players wear a social justice message. Grow a pair, your vag is showing

Something tells me you are too dumb to understand that the issue most will have is not with the messagig players will choose, but that the 'wrong messages' will be denied. This will create a system where some are silenced and some are lifted, when the correct option is to treat everyone the same by saying 'shut up and play football at football time, and make political speech on your own time.'

Too late on that front! Remember when the NCAA punished North Carloina hosting Final 4 because they didn't follow bath house Barry's threats allowing men into women's bathrooms??

If state schools are controlling the content via the conferences how are there no state actors? I hope you aren’t a lawyer.

What would really be interesting is if the NCAA could stop a “white power” on the back of a jersey.

You’d probably have to be insane to do that in a football lockeroom, but if you really wanted to, legally I don’t See how a state school could stop you if this is an option.

Some of us were LSU fans prior to the early 1970's when the whole team was white. We never gave the race of the team a thought and when the team was integrated we cheered for everyone wearing LSU on their jerseys. We were sports fans watching the sports we loved , the pure competition where the better team or player won without the event turning into a political spectacle. We miss those days, but not the segregation.

But you are correct that public institutions could have a problem if they start regulating the content of the players' speech.

No institution is going to have to regulate football or basketball messages. They are not going to be individualized. There will only be one message per team per game. Players can either wear it, or not. This guarantees all messages will be left wing, unless a hockey or baseball team wear MAGA patches.

The NCAA should stay out of politics. They will lose fans, just like the NFL and MLB have done.

Both have gained in popularity over the last decade. They are becoming increasingly more popular in other countries. For every “I’m not going to watch this shite anymore” you hear, they pick up 3 new fans in other countries.
