Leads one to believe the Ark def. existed and was in fact a condenser of electricity.

They say that "mana" from heaven was basically a machine that produced some sort of algae that could be made into bread too.

The Arc was supposedly used as a weapon to destroy the walls of Jericho too.

So many stories, no evidence.

Egypt, Babylon, Assyria, Macedonia, Selucid, Ptolemy, and Rome all sacked Jerusalem at least once (some more than once) prior to the birth of Christ. The book of Maccabees details one such sacking at the hands of Selucia, and how many temple treasures were lost.

The archaeology proves that much of the post-pentatech Old Testament is at least accurate with respect to geography. There are ruins of cities and fortifications exactly where the Bible says there should be. Many foreign kings are mentioned by name who can easily be verified by the records from their own countries, and the timelines of those dynasties always match the archaeology. Much of the Bible from the conquest of Canaan through the death of Christ appears to describe a lot of actual verifiable events.

If the Bible says there was an ark, I have no doubt that there was some object meeting that description which existed at some point. For how long, and where it went before being lost and/or destroyed is a mystery. The Ethiopian story is plausible to me, but fantastic claims require fantastic proof.

Mark Twain went on a European vacation one year toured all the major cathedrals. He claimed that each church had a small portion of the real cross. Twain said if you put all the bits of the cross together you could build a house. I believe there is an Ark of the Covenant and it is the reason that the world is so fricked up today, because we have broken our contract with God.

What?

we have broken our contract with God.

Which contract? The Ark, whatever it may be, and whether it exists, represents a "contract" that is wholly foreign to you.

Christians believe that Jesus forged a new covenant, invalidating the last, by the way.

I wasn't implying it validated or invalidated the claim... only pointing out that this story dates back to before Jesus's birth... it's not as if some guy just started claiming the Ark is in Ethiopia 20 years ago.

The last mention of the Ark was just prior to the Babylonian sacking of Jerusalem - twice - in a short period of time. That's my uneducated guess as to when it disappeared.

Now, seeing that an army was approaching, the Israelites might have carried it off - that seems logical, too.

Interestingly, about archaeology, Dr. Steven Collins has been digging at what he believes to be the site of Sodom. In digging down through the site, he's discovered a 3-foot layer of ash and trinitite - a glass compound formed by heating sand up to the level seen at nuclear blasts, lol.

There's a directionality to the blast that destroyed the city he's investigating, so he surmises there was a comet or meteor that nearly reached the ground before exploding.

Very interesting and the archaeology is compelling.

That thing the claim is the arc of the covenant is an old hollowed out log.

Did you think the Arc was adorned with gold and jewels?

Its described in detail in the bible.

Made of acacia wood, the Ark was covered inside and out with pure gold and measured two and a half cubits long by a cubit and a half wide by a cubit and a half high (45" x 27" x 27"). Near its four feet were gold rings, through which wooden poles, also covered with gold, were inserted, for carrying the Ark.

Special care was taken on the lid: solid gold with two hammered gold cherubim, or angels, on it, facing each other, with their wings overshadowing the lid. God told Moses:

"There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the Testimony, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites." ( Exodus 25:22, NIV)
God told Moses to place the tablets of the Ten Commandments inside the Ark. Later, a pot of manna and Aaron's staff were added.

I read, in one of the ancient extra-biblical books( maybe in 1/2/3 Macabees) where they made a copy of the Ark To fool the enemies and most theorists think that the Ethiopians have the copy. Supposedly, the story goes, Jeremiah hide the real one somewhere in Mount Nebo. It really was fascinating to look into this story. I firmly believe that Menelik is actually Solomons son. Do some looking into the history of the Israeli airlift of the tribe of Haile Salassie and their descendants. I know they would not have done that if the story wasn't true.
The Ark was just a type and shadow of Christ and even if the real Ark survived, it means nothing now

I was thinking there is a book within a book that tells the exact location of the Ark.

My guess is it was the Babylonians that carried it off between the first temple and second temple eras.

Babylon kept meticulous inventory records of items seized during an invasion. The King wanted it to be done that way to insure the kingdom gained form the military expedition. Missing from the inventory from the invasion and defeat of Israel is the Ark and several other items. In the next temple there is no mention of the Ark being set in it's place within the Holy of Holies. That leads to the speculation that the Ark was hidden before Babylon invaded and was never brought back to it's original position. There is a copper scroll that details the items hidden and their locations throughout Israel. The reason for it's difficulty is the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple by the Romans. Many of the landmarks vanished over time. Some items have been discovered and reside with the Government for safe keeping until the third temple is built. Over the years almost all items necessary to bless the new temple have been discovered.

That's not Biblical, so no. That's more Muslim, if anything.

Okay, not Muslim, perhaps, but certainly not Jewish. The Israelites were some of the first peoples to recognize that God is immaterial.

Jews don't worship moon rock.

I have no idea where it is, honestly. In the sands of time.

This forum really needs a religion spot. The Shroud of Turin, I'm convinced, is the real deal, though.

I am so glad that the massacre of 750 people failed to register with you so little, that THIS was the first thing that upset you. May god have mercy on your soul.

Did anyone else in this thread focus on that? The OP title itself focused not on the loss of life, but on the fact that the church supposedly houses the Ark.

Your virtue signaling is acknowledged though. Thanks for that.
