I still can't wrap my head around the technology of driverless cars. Seems surreal.

We will not have fully autonomous, AI driven robotic surgery in 3 years. Not even close
Right. We don’t have autonomous driving yet. On top of that, we are in a surgeon workforce shortage that worsens every year. I am a surgeon, and the number of on the fly decisions I make in surgery with a real life human being in my care on the table is incredible. Human beings are not robots, we are all different, and the potential for something to go wrong at any second is always there. Love Elon, but he’s very wrong on this. I’d rate surgery as one of the most AI proof fields.

Human are incredibly crazy to give something they have created control over their body, mind, and spirit.
Elon just lost me there. Back off boy!!

Elon is wrong. Shocker.
It's a prediction 4 years into the future. He can't be wrong for at least 4 years. Unless you are a time traveler, you have no way of knowing if he is right or wrong.

surgeons will be obsolete in 48 months.

My wife had her hip replaced via Mako robotic assisted surgery in Biloxi 2 years ago.

From someone who knows this area, there’s a lot more to being a Surgeon than good Operating skills, managing all the meds, the co-morbidities, etc. and the legal aspects… People that have a relationship with their Doctors, prevent a lot of lawsuits, but they will sue that robot/ hospital in a heartbeat if anything goes wrong, so maybe in time they work out all the logistics, but doubt it’s anytime soon

Reusable rockets that fly themselves back to the launchpad and land themselves upright? In FOUR years? Musk is an idiot!
Why don’t we have autonomous taxis operating in every major metro in the country?

the medical professionals that have a direct patient inter face will do okey. think rn's and knife folks. All others will be replaced by a/i. its here now, as a 77 year, most doctors are shills for drug companies and Mri tests. My best info source is chatgpt

As someone who uses robot assistance in the OR, I would welcome sitting back and being an observer or human backup to an autonomous surgical robot. But I use them now, I use various AI programs now, this is way more than 3 years away. I would be surprised if I see it in my career. And that’s without taking regulatory concerns from government agencies, insurers, healthcare systems into account. All of which will delay their implementation even further.

Here's what I want to know.
Why are there so many people on this thread who can't do the math on 48 months?

The Mako is nice. It is so far away from what Elon is saying we’ll see in 3 years that it isn’t even worth bringing up in a discussion of autonomous robotic surgery. It requires user input throughout the entirety of the portions of the case in which it is utilized.

Mea culpa.
It appears that the OP is the one who can't do the math, as the quote was for three years, not 48 months.
My apologies.

You mean the OP who made the thread title?
“In 3 years (2029), Optimus robots will be better surgeons than any human on Earth — at scale.”
