The first iteration of most things are an ocean away from their “best” version, and the creators are likely very aware of that notion.

Who gives a shite about flying, a production car that does 0-60 under 1 second

I'm a simple kind of man.
Give me a stoked FI Chevy 350, Muncie rock crusher 4-speed, 12 bolt, AM radio and a heater. I'll stay amused.

Right. Saying that the thrusters point up, not down, was him saying that it would never leave the ground

I never said anything about "leaving the ground". Why continue to lie?

The fact that the thrusters provide acceleration both horizontally and vertically through the air is actual flight. It might only be a short flight, but it is flight.

So NBA players can fly?

Was anything but accurate

I guess law school doesn't require physics?

This may or may not translate to something practical, but to say it's just kinetic energy demonstrates a basic misunderstanding of what's happening.

And sure, there's a massive dose of marketing involved. It's Elon Musk, after all. I just don't think something has to be commercially viable to be an interesting or potentially useful engineering achievement.

It's very interesting tech

That's why lying about what is actually did isn't necessary (not saying you are I'm bringing the whole "flying" conversation full circle)

What I am curious is how much battery is left after that 0-60 thrust start.

I don’t think that will be a huge factor if you just use it once or twice. That takes a lot of power, but it’s so short-lived that the total energy use probably isn’t dramatic. I’d guess that the battery percentage drop will be on the order of 5% of the fully charged battery, but the driver won’t notice that, because it will happen gradually as the battery runs the compressor that charges the cylinders.

I just checked ChatGPT. It estimates 3% to 4.5% of the fully charged battery to jump once.

ETA: It’s even less for accelerating from 0-60.

One of the most practical features is the fan pulling the car to the ground for stabilizing high speed turns. Really interesting.

with air traffic controllers being so busy with air traffic now, i wonder how difficult it would be to control all the flying cars in the future.

Hey Slo? Jordan flew. Proof me wrong.

Slo, that means show me proof.

I watched people fly off of mountain tops. Under their own power and the wind.

There were visions of rockets that could land themselves. You saw it.

The future is here. Embrace it.

That's not unprecedented tech. The Tesla Roadster isn't even the first car to drive upside down. But, yes, that is one of the most practical features, primarily for race cars.

Bug, maybe we should start a bingo card for whenever SFP shows up in a thread...

"BuT i'M ON thE RiGhT"
"I'm SMArtEr ThaN yOu"
"i wiN" (Or, as I like to say: the pigeon that plays chess)
He redefines terms
Won't admit at any point he may have been mistaken
Claims some type of superiority to others
Claims knowledge of dozens (!) of technical subjects

Feel free to add more! SFP Bingo is fun for family & friends!

the whole flying thing is a gimmick strictly for marketing and making the reveal go viral. obviously this feature will never be allowed in the real world or make it to mass production.

i do think it will be extremely fast though (and super expensive)
