You’re saying that when someone’s lifestyle is threatened, that motivates them to act. Fine. But then look at the real world. Voter participation is mediocre across the board, including among people who constantly claim their way of life is under assault by libs or conservatives.

So for your claim to work, you have to believe that street criminals, meth addicts, and catalytic-converter thieves are more politically motivated and civically engaged than average Americans who say their culture, income, and freedoms are being taken from them. That criminals are the ones who respond rationally to policy threats by voting, while millions of “normal” people just can’t be bothered.

The same people usually described as impulsive and short-term thinkers suddenly become disciplined political actors who understand party platforms and reliably show up on election day?
