The employee killed the customer by striking him. Final result? He pleaded guilty to felony battery and was sentenced to two years of house arrest.

A Black Dunkin’ Donuts employee based in Tampa, Florida had confronted an angry customer who was using racial slurs toward him, resulting in a fatal punch to the customer. The employee, Corey Pujols, has pleaded guilty to felony battery and has been sentenced to two years of house arrest, reported CBS News.

Vonelle Cook, 77, was reportedly a regular at this particular Dunkin’ store. According to the court records obtained by NBC, Cook went to order a coffee in the drive-thru and he began berating the employees for poor service after they said they were having trouble hearing him.

From NBC: He was asked to leave, but he parked his car and went inside the store.

When Cook appeared inside the store, Pujols asked a coworker to call police. Prosecutors said Cook began arguing with Pujols. Once Cook said the racial slur, Pujols walked around the counter and told him not to say that again. When he repeated it, Pujols hit him in the jaw and Cook fell to the floor.

An autopsy said he suffered a skull fracture and brain contusions.

Cook died three days later from his injuries, as reported by CBS. Pujols was originally charged with manslaughter however, prosecutors found Pujols did not have intentions of killing Cook considering his youth and lack of a criminal record.

“Two of the primary factors were the aggressive approach the victim took toward the defendant and everyone working with the defendant, and that the victim repeatedly used possibly the most aggressive and offensive term in the English language,” said Grayson Kamm, a spokesperson for Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren, via Tampa Bay Times.

Yep, good to know if someone verbally offends you that you are allowed to kill them. Imagine how quickly a case like Rittenhouse should have been decided based on this ruling.

I mean if this is true he deserves to get his arse beat for being a racist dick. That doesn’t mean he deserved to die or that the employee intended to kill him.

Makes sense, murder is bad unless they say a no no word first. If I were the family I'd probably be evening things out shortly afterward.

Wait...isn't that what manslaughter is? Being responsible for a death but not intending to kill?

Secondly...his youth? The guy was 27 I believe.

It's f'n weird to see that people believe that words are violence and can be considered an assault on oneself.

Talk about fricking around and finding out - I don't think you want to live in the world you think you want to live in.

I don't feel sorry for either of them. Hopefully the young man learns from this experience.

Ok

If someone tells me I'm 'white privileged', now I know I can knock them out.

He got a slap on the wrist for killing a man. What lesson do you think he learned?

Isn't that what makes it manslaughter?

What other social no-no's justify beating someone's arse?

Who gets to decide which ones are offenses so great they warrant an assault, and which ones are okay?

I'm pretty sure everyone is learning a lesson here, and it's that if you're white and say the word you're not allowed to say, not only are you subject to being fired and completely unhireable ever you're also subject to being killed on the spot with little to no repercussions for the person who justifiably killed you for saying that heinous sounds with your mouth.

Seriously, what would this 27 year old man learn from this experience other than he received a slap on the wrist for assaulting and killing a man for saying a mean sound?

Meh, he's a 27 year old without a criminal record who was employed at DD. He strikes me as the type to have regret and learn plenty from this, but maybe I'm wrong.

In a reasonable world nobody thinks Pujols is a genuinely bad actor and nobody thinks the old cur is a true victim. The reason this is controversial is because if the 27 year old was white and knocked out/killed a 77 year old POS black guy who was berating everyone, it'd be a national story and no way the 27 year old gets off so easily. That's unjust, but in a vacuum, the punishment here is probably fine.
